Predicting Player Suspensions in the Quarterfinal between France and Morocco

Two very odd things happened yesterday.

In the Moroccan match, ref Michael Oliver was tolerant of the Canadian side wrestling our players and bodying them while handing us yellow cards at any soft touch. Even Hakimi barely opening it got him a yellow card when i saw with my two eyes Canadian players bossing him and shouting at him with no sanction. It only ended after the 1st half when Ouahbi stepped in was captured shouting at the ref.

The 2nd odd thing happened to France who were facing the same treatment against the Paraguayans. The paraguayans were fouling them yet they were the ones to take yellows.

To anyone who doesn't know it, a yellow card carries onto the next game, and if a player takes a second yellow, they are suspended. They cannot continue the game nor can they play in the next game (semifinal).

Here's a list of all the players with yellows:

  • Barcola
  • Olisé
  • Manu Koné
  • Achraf Hakimi
  • Ounahi
  • El Khannous
  • Halhal

In the meantime, an actual suspension on Balogun was just lifted in clear violation of the rules.

To all those dismissing Canada

You saw:

  • Côte d'Ivoire almost win against Norway,
  • DR Congo almost win against England
  • Cabo verde tie Spain
  • Cabo Verde tie Uruguay
  • Ghana tie England
  • Cabo verde and almost win against Argentina
  • Paraguay defeat Germany

But Canada shouldn't even be taken into consideration as a threat? Their attack genuinely worries me. We're not good at scoring and there's this pattern where we seem to concede goals in every match.

I'm tired boss

I knew we were heading toward this from day one of the AFCON shenanigans but i hoped it wasn't gonna go down the way it did. The negative consequences of petty internet war will reverberate far beyond football and onto the future and result in a net loss for every single party involved.

My fellow Moroccans, (at least, those among the posters presenting themselves as such who are). For the love of God, stop it now. If you think you were wronged and insulted, you made your point loud and clear. This is petty, and abject. Telling me that they would've done the same is even more childish.

It does not matter to me.

It should not matter to you.

We're either creating positive reinforcements or negative vicious circles. Whoever is contributing to this, Moroccan or Senegalese or third party benefiting from the discord, know that what you're doing is an effort to fracture the continent.

Put an end to this now. And every single person from this sub, please, don't shy away from shutting down anyone who opens it, and consider creating a different sub and leaving this one if the mods don't do their job.

Extremely unpopular take

I'm gonna anger almost everyone here, but i really want to share my thoughts and see what people have to say. We're not nearly as good as some of our fans make it out to be. Everything about our national team is astroturfed, and i can't help but ask myself if i'm the crazy one or if people are nuts.

We think too highly of ourselves because we reached top 4 in 2022 parking the bus every game but lets be real, we are overrated and have 0 offensive potential. Drawing the weakest version of brazil in a game we should've won and barely outscoring Scotland is nothing to be proud of for a people who scold anyone who dares call them dark horses, telling them that we're instead "elite" now (lmao).

Our chances of lasting longer than R32 are soo much less likely than people assume. We're not as solid defensively as we were during Regragui time and we're trash offensively (pardon the language, but it's the raw truth).

Today, this post will be downvoted into irrelevance by triggered fans. When we're disqualified, I'll come back to answer any comments and see what you have to say then.

It would be fatal to underestimate the Scottish team

I've seen some insane takes from some fellow Moroccans predicting a 3-0 or 5-0 against Scotland. To me, it sounds like a bad joke.

There are a lot of parallels to be made between the Scots and the Morocco of 2022. If we make the mistake of judging them on the basis of their match against Haïti, they're gonna make us pay and we will look like fools (like Portugal against DR Congo in this WC or against Morocco in the quarter finals of the 2022 WC). Just like us, they under perform when it should be easy and they over perform when they're the clear underdog.

When on their A game, they'll make elilte teams like England and Spain suffer in their attempts to score. They always have a real chance of denying their foe the win irrespective of who they are. We're not a team that distinguishes itself by the ability of its attacking side to find well-timed goals in tight spaces and from unusual angles. We actually do suck at finishing even when given multiple opportunities to score. The people who think that match can't finish in a draw are delusional.

Another thing to know about the Scots is that they score exceptionally high on resilience. They're tenacious and can really frustrate us. Don't expect them to break just because we're pressing. If we spend too much energy and get tired by the 2nd round, i can see them score on us during a counter.

I'm saying all that, but i still believe we're the favorites. I just think a draw is VERY likely, a loss is not impossible and that this match will be harder than the one against Brazil. The way i see things, it's gonna be a remake of our group stage match against Croatia in 2022 but with the roles reversed, and us with 60-70% possession.

Blame the US govt for losing access to Fable 5 not Anthropic

I'm no fan of some of Anthropic's decisions, namely, excess quantization, token pricing, absurd token usage rates and the downgrading of 4.7 and 4.8 compared to 4.6, but i'ts appalling to see some people on socials put the blame on them for the unlisting of Fable 5.

Since the Venezuelan war and the refusal of Anthropic to comply with the request from the Pentagon to integrate their AI with military systems and global surveillance programs, the company has been facing an unending stream of attacks from the govt that culminated in the very political and very misunderstood emergency export control decision that came today.

Here's a short list of actions taken by the US Govt that prove my claims:

  • Secretary of state Pete Hegseth threatening Anthropic with the Defence Production Act to allow the US Govt to nationalize the company or hand over Claude Code's code and weights to the military
  • Labeling them as a "Supply Chain Threat" (by that, they mean their refusal of acting as a supply chain threat to the entire world) and blacklisting them from defense contracts
  • Interference with the SEC to delay and heavily scrutinize the Anthropic IPO which will probably end up being the longest procedural filing in US IPO history (if it ever comes to fruition).
  • Under the guise of investigating the "jailbreak" vulnerabilities, the government targeted their distribution channels by demanding exhaustive logging, audits, and compliance reviews beyond what it asks of any other ai company.

Now, regarding the emergency export control decision by Howard Lutnick, this dropped immediately following the legal blowback where Judge Rita Lin granted a preliminary injunction blocking the Pentagon's domestic supply chain risk ban.

The allegation is that the decision was taken following the discovery of a universal vulnerability in the model. Mind you, this model and mythos were thoroughly stress tested for this kind of behaviors by red-teams in the US govt and by contractors and the conclusion was that it happened to be superior to any other competitor in terms of guardrails.

Not only that but the "vulnerability" is a non-issue and a byproduct of regular development and debugging, a minor issue that is ALSO PRESENT IN CHATGPT AND GEMINI.

The US Govt is probably the reason why we don't have access yet to Mythos and the reason why Fable 5 was removed today, not Anthropic. And for those who are angry because it was also removed for US Citizens unlike what the US Govt directive entails, i would like to remind you that Claude does not have a mean to isolate and only allow access to the it to US citizens alone. The emergency export control explictly states that foreign individuals in the US should be barred from using it as well. It was engineered to block access to the model to everyone.

To bypass that, Anthropic would have to ask for your ID or integrate another strong KYC method.
