Socialite murdered and the town thinks a woman’s adopted son did it

Im having a really hard time because every way i try and phrase this google AI say i am misremembering it and gives me a wrong answer. I have a very long project at work and i remember getting through like half of this podcast about this woman but stopped because the episodes were still ongoing at the time

I am pretty sure that it happened in a southern state. People really knew this woman for her big hair and makeup. She was found in her living room by a relative or neighbor i cant remember, but none of her things were taken. The town believes that it was this one woman’s son who did it and i remember them saying that they didn’t really like him because he was adopted and may have had some mental issues.

This wasn’t a one shot podcast but if someone could give me the name i can probably go from there.

My grief of the loss 2 years later doesnt touch the guilt of deciding to let him die

My dad and I were never close it wasn’t a hostile or an abuse thing, we just somehow never clicked. He was sick for as long as I could remember, and doctors couldn’t pinpoint the cause, but they knew he had GERD. As I grew older, I became increasingly angry at him because he refused to take care of himself and defied all doctors’ orders to stop drinking, smoking weed, and cigarettes, saying that only that and fast food made him feel better. Considering what we now know about weed, I wouldn’t be surprised if it began as CHS and worsened since he had been smoking since he was a kid.

When I turned 21, I decided to cut all contact with him and move on with my life. I still stayed friends with him on Facebook and would get updates about his hospitalizations. He would still claim not to understand what was happening, but he was convinced that doctors were lying, lazy, and not genuinely trying to diagnose his condition and just kept telling him to get sober.

One day, I remember him reaching out to me on Facebook. He mentioned that he had spoken with one of the nurses who advised him to choose a next of kin to make medical decisions for him since his condition was getting worse and his hospital stays were getting longer(his decision to stay to try and make doctors find a diagnosis). Based on what he shared with me and others, doctors were still unable to identify any underlying issues and kept basing his symptoms on his lifestyle. I agreed and didn’t give it much thought, assuming he was just trying to guilt me into reaching out to him again.

Two years ago, I got a call from his local sheriff asking if I had seen him. Neighbors had reported a welfare check on him, saying that they hadn’t seen him all day and the last time they saw him he was slurring and not making sense. They thought he was just drunk and maybe wandered off somewhere like he does sometimes. I decided to call my mom since they were still friends after the divorce and i didn’t know who he still talked to or where he lived, but she would know. She reached out to his friends, who informed her that they hadn’t spoken to him in a couple of weeks, saying he was starting to get weird and more aggressive so they were letting him cool off thinking he was just on a bender and would come back when he was done like he always did but, the last time they heard from him, he seemed his version of fine.

Turns out he wasnt fine. Maintenance at his apartment was finally able to open his door 3 days later for “routine inspection” and found him alive but unconscious in his bed. They took him to the hospital and called me.

Because he was unresponsive when they arrived, they did a full-body X-ray and found a mass in his frontal lobe. At that point, they couldn’t confirm yet whether it was an infection or a tumor, but it was the size of a tennis ball. They were leaning more to tumor based on x-rays but said they were waiting on the tech to fully confirm. Additionally, they discovered the early stages of aggressive lung cancer, which was not present when he had a chest X-ray six months before, they did at that time though, tell him that he would need to stop smoking because they were at the pint now where it had damaged his esophagus so badly that he would need surgery to repair it. He did not quit, but he was apparently in the process of thinking about quitting.

They told me that they could treat him and maybe get him stabilized after being unconscious in a hot room for three days, but he would be coming back to fight terminal brain and lung cancer that would need intensive 24 hour care. I asked them to stop care, remove the ventilator and crank the pain killers and 3 days later he stopped breathing on his own and passed.

His whole life, his greatest fear was that he had a fatal illness or cancer and would have to face it. So, when we were fighting to revive him from severe dehydration and a brain mass in the personality center of his brain, I made the decision not to let him live out his biggest fear. It seemed cruel to save him from dying so he could fight stage 4 lung and brain cancer and ultimately, no one in his circle who could financially and emotionally help him through it.

The doctor praised me for my bravery in making this decision. He told me he regretted that he couldn’t make the same decision to end care when his mother was dying. Some of his friends thought I was a monster and petty for not doing everything I could to save him. His other friends, siblings, and my mother didn’t know that I had overheard them saying how relieved they were that it wasn’t them who had to make the decision because they couldn’t handle it. My grief group even joked that I had “won grief counseling” as the person with the most difficult story.

I did experience grief for the first few months, but it was more about the loss of a relationship that we never had and never will have. But, for the past two years, the most difficult part has been struggling with the fact that I made a decision that ended in someone’s death. It feels like blood on my hands. Logically, I understand that this wasn’t what happened, and I know that he had a very slim chance of survival anyway and that due to the mass in his frontal lobe, we couldn’t have done anything to save him. But I don’t know that i will ever be able to stop thinking that way.

Anyways tldr: dad was sick cuz he loves partying and made me end the party. He always said he was here for a good time not a long time. Dad please understand i made them CRANK those good drugs for you, but youre still our favorite asshole even if i couldn’t stand you.

Im not a therapist. Im actually not even listening to you.

I work at a job a payments department for banks on loans and the amount of people who call in and tell me their complaints or life story and none of it is needed for the job I’m paid to do. The previous job i worked at gave me such empathy burnout but our calls were so heavily monitored that i had to do active listening and fully acknowledge what the caller was saying that THE SECOND i found out my new job doesn’t have QA I decided i was not going to listen to more than i have to. I can notate you aren’t making a payment, i don’t need to know that “someone at the job site lied on my name and got me fired because the boss already hated me, and then my truck crashed and my baby mama had to go to the hospital with her sisters kids and i had some credi- “ I DoNt CARE! Phones been down on the desk since i said id leave a note on your account and I’ve been waiting for you to stop talking so i can ask if you have anymore questions. My coworkers who haven’t been in call centers before think Im a monster because I but I’m refusing to spend anymore emotional energy on people i don’t know that i cant help and Im paid to take payments, not listen to peoples problems

I was wrong about my CC pet peeve.

Someone asked a bit ago and I said it was people who say they don’t understand when they actually just don’t like what Im saying, but after 5 calls BACK TO BACK WITH NO ACW. I actually feel like I’m more annoyed by callers that call in about something and pick the completely wrong department and then interaction as follows

“Thank you for calling The Bank, how can i help you”

“Yeah why is my insurance more expensive?”

“I can transfer you to that department, do you mind if i put you on hold?”

“No, don’t transfer me, but like if i were to get different insurance whats that process like”

“Thats a great question for our insurance department, let me put you on a brief hold to start that transfer”

“Did you hear me? I said i don’t want to be transferred, just tell me why my insurance is so high”

HOW ABOUT 👏YOU LET ME👏 GET YOU👏TO👏INSURANCE!!!!!!👏
