Kind of quiet high pitch wine when in gear?

So I just picked this truck up and it drives great, I’m super excited to start working on it and getting it in great shape. There was a diff leak I noticed, and I bought a diff cover and permatex gasket maker, but haven’t installed yet. I did top off the diff fluid twice when driving it home and it was really not that low so I was confident driving it home but it was like black I don’t know how long it’s been since a fluid change… but there is kind of a high pitch wine when in gear, it disappears in neutral, and when I push the clutch in. It sounds like a bad bearing honestly that starts kind of whistling under load. Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks for all your help guys I’m very excited about all this, it was a great ride back!

So I bought the truck guys! Just a few questions.

Hey guys! Thanks so much for all your help and advice you guys are great.

So I bought the truck but I haven’t picked it up yet, yesterday after I bought it, I took it for another ride, and it rides great! But it was raining and the rear differential kind of scared me because it’s leaking more than originally thought… maybe the rain just made it look like that? But my question is tomorrow I gotta drive it home 50 miles after I insure it. Do you guys have any advice for how I can be as safe as possible?

I’m thinking, top up the coolant since it was low… and I was thinking I should drive to the closest autozone and pick up some diff oil, and take out the fill screw and top it up just so I don’t make anything worse than it already is, I already ordered the dif cover and gasket but I need to get it home first.

Anything else you guys would do if you were in this situation?

I love the truck! And I want to do a lot of work to it, so I’ll be here a lot. Thanks brothers

Went to see the truck today what do you guys think?

Hey guys I posted yesterday about the 1998 Chevy k1500 manual transmission 200k miles.

So I drove it and looked around I noticed it’s dripping a little from the differential, also it has a ticking squeeking noise that he says is coming from a bad pulley on the serpentine belt. It drove great and shifted really nice. The coolant was empty as someone noted. And there didn’t seem to be any oil in the coolant or any coolant on the dip stick.

The body and interior are in great condition but it’s more the frame I’m concerned about, he says it was garage kept but judging by the rust it seems like that may not always have been the case. He won’t go under 3500$ I got him down from 3900$ by offering 3.. what would you guys think?

And also how bad is that rust underneath?
