Basic leather work repair?

I have this pair of shoes and I LOVE them--but as you can see I have completely worn out (and done emergency staples) on the strap. I have basic sewing skills and materials--how doable is a fix like this? I don't care if the color is exact at all, so long as it looks like a clean fix. Thoughts?

What tree is this? SW Ontario

Not the best pictures, but to be clear they are the elongated leaves attached to the tree. Found in a forested area, magnolia / cucumber-y like leaves but the tree was at least 30 feet high, so not that!

Thanks for the help 😃

Just a general thought--I wish women and men could get along.

It saddens me. I feel like I'm growing up in a time where men and women uniquely hate one another. Of course this is the only generation I've grown up in, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but for so long I was on the side of social media where the hate was spewed nonstop both ways that it seems like such big fallouts have happened in my lifetime. We're all people, and I just wish that was accepted.

And porn... it's amplifying not only hate, but dehumanization. I want to adopt children one day, and I don't know if I'm more terrified to raise a son or daughter with it becoming so ubiquitous. I feel hopeless to shield its effects on my future kids from it, because it will only be worse by that time.

Random thoughts, it's just been on my mind.

Referring to my book, the bark and needles are virtually identical (except I think the red pine needles 'snap' when bent and Austrian doesn't). I don't like this ID trick because weather can affect how / if needles snap.

As for the cones, it also says the Austrian pine has pricks on the end. But 1. Cones aren't always readily available, 2. If there's a grove of pines it can be hard to assign to the tree.

Thoughts anyone? Thank you!
