Apart from the morning when she is squirming, meowing loudly in my face/shoving her face into mine and purring like mad happy to see me… she’s quite chill?

I was expecting a furry tornado but while she will run after a wand toy and up the cat post (especially if “big brother” cat is on it), even most of her playing is chill - she’d rather bat a roller ball/track toy and quietly fake-murder a plushie than charge about (she does climb though).

I know they sleep a lot and she eats if she’s hungry (and only when she’s hungry, I‘ve scared she wasn’t eating enough but she’s growing and has a good body condition), drinks water, litters perfectly… have I just hit the jackpot with a quiet, super cuddly kitten or is she just not quite in the manic phase yet and I’ve got it coming? One thing she does do is watch - the telly, the ball rolling around, the other cat, us moving about, but she’s pretty much silent unless she’s happy purring and cuddling and getting belly rubs! And if I wake her i get protests so I know she‘s not lethargic or anything. Obviously if she showed any sign of having something wrong with her apart from being ridiculously laid back I’d take her to the vet immediately.

My only previous cat (not “big brother“, he’s my partner’s) was a seriously abused and starved rescue so was a bit special in how she interacted with humans most of her life (and I got her at 2 yo) so people who have experience of normal cats, thoughts and opinions welcome! Am I just lucky or is she going to turn into a furry blur soon?

New kitten - what do you feed yours?

https://preview.redd.it/2c5u5s95pyhh1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7624762758fa72b1d2bb2be07ac02822f28fced1

I’ve had mine since Saturday, she’s 9.5 weeks old (yes I know she’s young! I would have gotten one a bit older but she is one of a soul-destroying number of unwanted kittens advertised around, I even saw ads threatening euthanasia if they weren’t rehomed in a week!) and I wanted her off Whiskas so she’s been transitioned on to Blink and Scrumbles with zero issues, I’ve also got some Carnilove kitten food to try.

Vet said she was perfectly healthy at her check up and vaccination/microchip appointment today and she’s got the energy and confidence of the energiser bunny!

However, while the high meat, minimal ingredients etc looks good on paper, those brands don’t seem to do rigorous long-term tests like Hills, Purina or Royal Canin do.

Has anyone fed their kitten either type of food and is the former genuinely better (the logic being she’s a carnivore, while the others contain grains etc) or is it just hype? My partner’s adult cat has had nothing but Whiskas since he was 6 weeks old (partner got scammed over his age), refuses to eat anything else and is totally healthy so I know it can’t be that bad but still. I’m also keen to give her a range of foods within reason (obviously not going to overload her tummy) so she’s hopefully not a totally fussy eater as an adult.

My previous cat (not the adult cat mentioned above) was a seriously abused rescue who was starved her first two years and had stunted growth because of it so I want to give my new girl the best I can but I also don‘t have an unlimited budget so… advice and opinions welcome ☺️ I’m not willing to give her totally budget/low-quality food but I’m sure there must be a middle ground beneath all the blatant marketing hype and extreme internet views!

(I’m aware that the 4% meat thing is a myth it’s just 4% of the meat has to be that named type and the derivatives is offal etc. which isn’t inherently bad but when I see sugar in cat food I do wonder)

Does anyone feed blink wet and thrive dry together?

And if so, how much does your cat weigh and how much of each do you give them, and are they indoors or outdoors, male/female, fixed etc?

Hoping to get a kitten and trying to figure out what I want to feed her long term - our current fluffboi will only eat whiskas but I would like her on something a bit better than that if I can help it!

Getting a Bengal kitten - need some advice!

Hello! I’m getting a Bengal kitten soon - she’ll come at almost 14 weeks with a fairly large kitten pack (some free katkin, litter she’s used to, bed, toys etc). And already fixed (as is our current boy cat who’s a domestic short-hair goblin).

Here’s my prep list - what else would you recommend I do?

- she’s going to be confined to a room until our current boy gets used to her scent and she’s settled a bit and then introduced as calmly as she can, and I’ve taken two weeks leave to supervise and bond with her

- upgrading the cat tree to a bigger/more robust set-up, more scratch poles etc (current boy already scratches the carpet because partner lets him, don’t want to encourage it in her!) and her own toys so current boy keeps his favourites to himself at least at first

- introducing her to our current cat slowly and making sure she knows he’s in charge out of the two of them early on including letting him tell her off a bit if need be

- she’ll get daily supervised outdoor time in our big garden (current boy harness trained so same for her), plenty of play time indoors, and I’m hoping to teach her tricks to keep her mind active too (I grew up with a border collie and my family have only had working breeds since so I’m expecting similar games/exercise commitment!)

- people socialising as much as I can to minimise the chance of her being an anti-human attack cat but also let her choose how cuddly she wants to be, if she decides to show affection by following me about shouting I’ll take it 😆

- slowly extending alone time until we’re confident that the two of them won’t fight and she won‘t be scared in her new home if we go out

Also, two specific questions:

- breeder feeds her both katkin and untamed, which is better or are both totally ok for her if i want to pick one of the other? (Or other suggested brands?)? Any recommendations for treats as well?

- name suggestions welcome! She’s a cool-tone brown (silver parents) and current contenders are Rosie and Pepper, open to more suggestions along those vibes! Current boy named Mocha so would rather avoid anything with both those sounds as he does know his name!

I am fully expecting a smart little chaos monkey and can’t wait 🙂
