Is there *anyone*, *any* repair service willing to change an ipod nano battery? 😕

I've been asking around various businesses and either had no response or been told no. I would attempt it myself but don't have a heat gun or a soldering iron, which i think are needed. I can't really afford to buy those things and also don't have space to store them. Can anyone recommend a business or person who would be willing or able?

ways to commute to Winnersh triangle quick?

I'm moving to Reading for a job that will be 5 days a week in office, which will be tiring but I'm determined to make it work for as long as I can

The commute that I can think of so far is Reading train station > Winnersh Triangle takes 8 min, then walk a further 10 minutes, hopefully door to door that's 25 minutes ish give or take. That's the ideal time if I'm going to commute I think so I thought I should find a flat closest to the main Reading train station.

I haven't thought about bus because I havent taken it when I was down Reading. Does anyone do commutes to Winnersh Triangle and know areas/public transport route that can squeeze the commute to 25 minutes each way?

I drive but I don't like relying on driving everyday, I also know the roads to Winnersh can clog up as I've been in taxi to the interview

edit: I can't see any comments in the thread right now (probably a bug) but I can see comments through notification. To answer some of your questions I don't know where I'll live in Reading, hopefully you guys can help with areas that have good connections to quick public transport, for example city centre for the Train. or area x is on the direct bus route to Winnersh Triangle. Thanks!!

Went to the Gordon Ramsay burger re open

Waited in line from 11:40, got my free burger by 12:07

Not sure I would drop 15 for the burger and a further 4 for fries in the future unless friends wanted to go :/ but was happy to do it on a day off for free!

Naked punks, a rotten fridge and Liam Gallagher: The untold story of the Purple Turtle

The Purple Turtle was never meant to survive. But through friendship, music and sheer chaos, it became a Reading institution – and home to generations of stories too wild to make up.

This one was a lot of fun. It's free to read. Enjoy! And share your best tales from the Turtle...

Visiting Reading after a long absence - recommendations?

In a few weeks I’ll be visiting Reading after many years away. I went to university there and lived in the town for over seven years, but I have not been back at all since for at least a decade.

I’ll be with my partner and our 5 year old, both of whom have never been to Reading.

Obviously I have some ideas of where to go and what to show them, but I just wondered if there is anything new that I might not know about. Or maybe there is something I have forgotten!

An example of something that might interest us: are there boat trips on the Thames and are they worth it?

Thanks!

STORE 3095 BLOCKING FIRE EXIT

Tesco in Reading (store 3095)

What the hell is this?

Constantly blocking fire exits

So...if there was an actual fire and that was your closest exit?

Can't believe the stupidity

St Joseph's college closing

I heard how ST Joseph's college is highly likely to shut down this july, does anyone have any ideas what will happen to the students? Particularly current Year 10s and 12s?

Gordon Ramsay Street Burger is reopening

I did not see this coming... When it closed, I wasn't surprised at all. Every time I passed by, it was usually empty. I went once and it was ok, but a bit overpriced.

Castle St/A329 Gyratory - What to do?

I go around this Gyratory most mornings on my commute. I enter from Castle Hill and take the A329 South right hand lane exit. I would say most people on a morning at this Gyratory are doing this exact thing.

For the last couple of years the road markings have been so worn away that you couldn’t easily tell which lane, middle or right, you should be taking upon entry to follow to the above specified exit. The curve of the road seems to have meant everyone takes the middle lane as the better driving line. To avoid causing issues I too followed traffic this way.

The lines have recently been repainted and it is very clear now that the right lane feeds around to said exit. Nevertheless 99% of drivers still take the above line and simply cross lanes without indicating like they always have.

This means for the small % of drivers trying to use the correct lane, we’re cut up constantly and risk people crossing lanes without a care and crashing in to us. I’ve been on the receiving end of honking, swearing and hand gestures as though I’m the one cutting them up.

So what’s the best course of action here? Follow the lemmings and save myself the grief or keep driving around the Gyratory correctly and hope everyone slowly cottons on?

This is a problem every time I take this route and I am always as careful as I can be to avoid an accident by being ready for people to cut me off.

Pic shows the red and green correct lane routes and the orange shows what the red lane cars are doing.

Train ticket issues

Just wondered if anyone else is having issues getting e-tickets on Trainline for journeys from Reading? Both my partner and I commute to work (to different places) and have found we can’t get e-tickets anymore and have to collect from the station. My crossover time from bus to train is very tight so it’s very annoying! Just wondered if anyone else has the same or knows what might be happening? Trainline support were very unhelpful!

Where is this pub?

Hi all, question for the older redditors -

There was a pub called "The Red House" somewhere in/near Wargrave, apparently in Warren Row. Anyone have any idea where it was exactly, or what the address was?

What's the deal with that mid terrace Pizza restaurant on King's Road in Caversham?

Seems to be a Brazilian pizza place, but it just looks like somebody's house.

New TCG and Game Store (GeekStoreStuff)

Hello everyone

I wanted to say a massive thank you for those who interacted with my last post!

My name is Paul and I am opening a dedicated TCG and gaming store in Reading. We will be stocking pokemon sealed, hits and bulk as well as some lorcana and other bits.

On top of this we will have refurbished consoles fully tested and will be offering upgrades to controllers as well as console repairs!

I just wanted to update the opening for the store

We are going to be located in Unit 6, Harris Arcade, Reading.

We get the store on June first and expect to be ready to trade on June 2nd! We will be opening part time in June 3-4 days a week and full time 6 days a week in July

Our opening hours are likely to be Tue-Fri 10am-6pm and Saturday 9am-6pm with Sunday being 10am-4pm

I'm really excited to be able to open this store in Reading and know there's already so many people looking forward to this.

To celebrate, we will be running a contest in store to win 1 x Charizard UPC! (More details to follow)

In the meantime I'd love if people could give me a follow on Instagram and Facebook to spread the word. We will be posting full opening times in the next week!

I can't wait to see you guys!
