This is First Lieutenant Oliver. We found him on the ground.

First Lieutenant Oliver was a stray that was at my grandma's house (6 hours away) for about 4 months. They just gave him hot dogs and balogna, he was so skinny you could count his ribs by the time we came to visit. He was so incredibly friendly and since we already had 2 cats and had an idea of what to expect from him, we got him straight to the vet. He thankfully didn't have any contagious diseases, was already fixed, and had an unregistered microchip. (We suspect he was too much for his original owner to handle and was let out on purpose :/) We got him home and after 3 days he finally got his energy back and played with his new toys for the first time. Now he is right at home with us nearly a year later. We have tailored parts of our lives around him and our lives are better for it.

Hopefully this doesn't break Rule 2 since he was a stray, it just seems obvious to us that he is purebred based on the evidence.

I miss my kitty Joyce

So a week ago she gone missing. I post on Petco Love help to find her then I get the news she is in Humane Society labeled as male. So we find out someone called on our cat our cat was with my mom. So Animal control was circling and pointing at her. When my mom went to check they told her don't touch her or call her by the name. They never got her collar back. We got her back fed her. Next day or 2 she was in my bathroom closet. She was in bad condition she had kidney problems. One day she threw up from food and her weight was o ly 4 pounds. For my mom it was hard she didn't sleep well. Well my brother wife dad specializing in animals. Our kitty Joyce she was in pain we put her down and my mom made nice place in our garden. We even had light up outdoor cat with butterfly to know qhen it light up she is with us. My mom even planted rose 🌹 next to the grave. When we got her from one place who wanted to give her to Animal place she already had kidney problem but 1st year she was happy. Later started to affect. We gave her good a year and the half with us.

Wet food help

My 3 year old female was raised on a particular kibble (per the breeder) and I have continued with this brand since she arrived in our home. She was never over enthusiastic about it, but ate it daily. Of course we would give her treats, and some human food (cooked chicken breast and canned tuna) too, on a variable basis.

Again just to add variety, I gave her wet food also. It turns out, she is crazy for smooth/pate style wet cat food, and now hardly eats her dry food. I have no problem giving her what she wants, but am concerned about her health/nutrition.

TL;DR - what do you think is the best commercial wet cat food - smooth, not chunky (she won't eat it). I live in the US (northeast).

Thank you.

Litter box tips for new owner

First time owner of a cat so I could really use some advice. I'm struggling with litter boxes for my new bengal kitten. I have two XL steel boxes filled with pea pellet litter. I clean these out twice a day but I can't get the urine smell out entirely. It's only been two weeks and the kitten is starting to not take to the first box and slowly starting to hesitate on the second. I found him peeing on the couch this morning. Am I supposed to be replacing full 4 inches of litter every two weeks to keep the smell manageable? Seems like a waste. Should I look for a different type of litter? The pellet was recommended and I'm glad because I found him eating some of the loose ones he tracks out of the box. My google search has primarily been this topic for a while now and I'm tired and frustrated...

good floor-to-ceiling mounted cat towers for a bengal?

Hello! we’ve just moved into an apartment and i’m looking for a good, sturdy cat tower for my male bengal, doesn’t HAVE to be a floor-to-ceiling mount, but it does need to be almost as tall as the ceiling and obviously sturdy enough for him. we’ve had regular cat towers in the past, but they wobble too much for him to want to use them.

we are quite restricted on space, so as vertical as possible without being too wide would be a good call.

thank you!

Just adopted this sassy guy

We adopted a 4 year old male Bengal cat named Hobbes. He’s been a wonderful addition to our family. We made sure to have vertical spaces for climbing, enrichment feeding puzzles, toys, and an outdoor catio that’s accessible to him whenever he wants. We also have stairs that he can access at any time to move between the first and second floor.
What’s getting me is that his tail moves in a manner that with any other breed of cat, would look like annoyance. I want to make sure that he’s living his best life. If you have any recommendations for additional enrichments or behavioural blogs that I can learn from, that would be great!

Single cat

I am struggling with the idea that he might deserve another cat to keep him company, but we recently took him to a house with five dogs and two cats.
To our surprise, every time he saw one of the cats, he wanted to fight. He didn’t fight with the dogs, though. By the last day, he was even comfortable enough to sleep in the same room as them. (For some context, he was resting on a cat tree, got down to use the litter box, and then went back to the same room on his own, even with all the dogs there.)
I would love to have more pets, but this experience made me wonder if he’s actually happier as the only cat. Am I wrong to think that? Or is this kind of reaction just the initial stress, and does it usually improve over time?
