Who’s actually raising your kid — you, or your story?

Something I keep sitting with as a parent: how much of my own childhood do I actually deal with, versus carry straight into how I raise my kids.

Not the big obvious stuff. The small reactions. The moment I snap and it’s really about something that happened to me thirty years ago, not what my kid just did in front of me.

Do you talk about this with your kids? Are you even aware, in the moment, when it’s an old story running the show instead of what’s actually happening right now?

Curious how people here hold this.

Enlightenment Isn’t a Personality. It’s a Glimpse You Keep Forgetting.

Most of the confusion around awakening comes from one wrong assumption. People think it means becoming a different kind of person, calm all the time, never reactive, somehow finished with being human. That’s not what it is.
Waking up is a glimpse, not an upgrade. It’s a direct experience of what you already are underneath the personality, not something added on top of it. Sometimes that glimpse happens instantly, a single moment where something just clicks. Sometimes it builds slowly over years. Either way, the glimpse itself isn’t the hard part.
Here’s what actually changes, and it’s smaller than people expect. The habits don’t disappear. The same reactions still show up, the same old patterns still run. What’s different is that now you know you’re doing it, while it’s happening, instead of realizing it two days later or not at all. That’s the whole shift. Not becoming someone who doesn’t get triggered anymore. Becoming someone who’s actually present for their own life, including the parts that are still conditioned.
That’s why habits can’t really be changed head-on. Trying to force one away usually just swaps it for another one wearing a different face. What works instead is awareness itself, and it comes in stages. First you notice a habit only after it already ran its full course. Later you catch it while it’s happening. Eventually you feel it coming before it starts. None of that is instant, and none of it requires becoming a perfected being first.
Most of the big concepts about how an awakened person should act come from the ego trying to build a new identity out of “spiritual,” which is just the same old game in a different outfit. Real awakened living looks almost boring from the outside. Same person, same old patterns sometimes, just fully owned instead of blamed on being distracted or not paying attention.
What would it actually look like for you if being awake wasn’t about transcending your habits, just being honest in real time about which one just ran the show?
