She reigns as the most revolting pop singer of the last 50 years. Her influence over modern pop singing has had a horrid result where “good” singing now means high octane, overzealous vocal. Her discography is somehow worse than her singing.
I think it is because she was quite stupid, even more so than most entertainers. I don’t think she fully comprehended anything she sang and obviously didn’t have the mental capacity to create art. Even Celine Dion managed nuisance and depth with her French work.
It is no surprise her legacy doesn’t endure with Gen Z beyond her junkie antics in the 2000s.
She should have kissed the ground Dolly Parton walked on for being allowed to sing her songs.

Long forgotten singer & actress Teresa Graves saw a fast rise to fame in the early 1970s. By 1974, she was the second black woman to lead an American television show in a non-stereotypical role. Despite her success, she quit Hollywood after becoming a Jehovah Witness. She died in a fire in 2002.
