Need general building advice

I figured out that walls could clip through the center of square ceiling pieces, but for some reason it's impossible for me to clip a wall through a wedge ceiling piece. Is there a way to get around this? It really messes with my build. I'm trying to build a portal with a house above it that is centered half a foundation back, (Supported by wall) in a wider oval shape to stretch above the entrance to the open portal under.

Having a ring below the floor, with three back walls neatly clipping through the ceiling pieces would give it some style, but it seems to be impossible. Right now I can only get 1 wall to stand up in the back.

Any advice to add style to such a building. I'm happy with the house above itself. It will work. But for the sides right under the house, is there anything I can replace the ring with that would look nice?... Or is there a way to clip walls and wedge pieces I don't know about?
