FMCG operations manager to VA

Should I resign from my first long-term client to focus on my career and family?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some honest advice because I’ve been going back and forth on this decision for weeks.
I’ve been working full-time for two clients—a Canadian company and a UK company—as an Admin and Executive Assistant. My schedule is from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM (Philippine time). Neither client uses a time tracker, but both require daily meetings and have growing responsibilities.

I’m considering resigning from my Canadian client, who I’ve been with for three years.

The first reason is that I recently enrolled in a 3-month Meta Ads Strategist training program. My goal is to transition from being a general VA to becoming a specialist. I’m worried that if I continue working two full-time jobs, I won’t be able to fully commit to the training and get the most out of it.

The second reason is my family. My child has a speech delay and has been struggling in school. His activities, homework, and exam results have been difficult, and I feel he needs more of my time and guidance. Right now, I barely have enough time for my family because of work.

On top of that, I’m starting to feel burned out. My responsibilities with my Canadian client have grown significantly. I started with mainly admin tasks, but now I’m also working on grant application projects, which are completely outside my background and comfort zone. While I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn, it has become stressful, and my pay hasn’t changed despite the added responsibilities.

Financially, my UK client pays me almost twice as much as my Canadian client, and my husband also has a stable job, so our household expenses would still be covered if I resigned. However, I’ve only been with the UK company for six months, so I don’t have the same sense of job security yet.

The hardest part is that my Canadian client was my very first client. He hired me even though I had no experience and taught me everything I know. He’s incredibly kind, patient, and understanding. I’ve been with him for three years, and even when the company has faced financial challenges, he’s always found a way to make sure we got paid. He genuinely treats his VAs like family, and that’s what’s making this decision so emotional.

If I resign, I’ll have more time to focus on my Meta Ads training, spend more time helping my child, and hopefully build a career with better long-term opportunities.

If I stay, I keep the stability and loyalty of a client who gave me my first opportunity, but I worry I’ll continue burning out and won’t be able to fully invest in my future.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? If you were in my shoes, would you resign, or would you hold on to the stable client? I’d really appreciate hearing different perspectives because I’m genuinely torn.
