Growth opportunities in working IFT in California?

Hi everyone, I just got my state card and I'm in Santa Clara County. From what it looks like, there's zero 911 jobs and the only other companies hiring are Norcal and Royal near me, which do IFTs.

One of my biggest fears is becoming stuck within an IFT job. I want to be able to move up and do higher levels of medicine, and I'm worried my skills will rot away. I do plan on getting my medic and eventually applying to medical school, but for now I want to make sure that I'm also learning from my time as an EMT-B.

I've also applied to many ER tech jobs, but have been rejected every time. I know Royal does something where if you work them for 6 months, you can move up to CCT or something else but I wasn't sure if that was true.

How am I supposed to get my CA state license if I'm not employed by an EMS agency?

Hi there, I live in CA and I'm in the process of getting my grey card, and Santa Clara requires you to be employed by an EMS agency before you can complete the registration.

When I apply to ambulance companies they all ask if I have my state license, but I don't have it because the state requires me to be employed. I keep getting rejected by ambulance companies so idek what to do

Just saw a man pick up a random pill on the floor and swallow it

I was on the blue line to Pleasanton and this guy who's like folding over his legs gets up in a panic, looks around, sees a white pill on the floor and just swallows it and walks to the next car.

Will a company hire me if I just got my drivers license?

Hi everyone, I just got my DL today. It took me a really long time as my family doesn't have a car so I was learning through my family and friends and I ended up passing the drivers test first try. I was wondering if there is a wait period before I can start working on an ambulance company, as I just got my drivers license? Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm just so excited.

How can I(19M) help my GF(20M) feel more secure and cared for when I get busy with school and cannot give her attention sometimes?

Hi everyone, I'm a college freshman who's been really busy with summer classes. Me and my GF have been together for about 2 months, and we had been going out for 5 months prior to getting together. Recently, I've been really stressed and trying to balance college classes along with work. I currently work in the emergency department as an ER Tech, and an EMT some days. I get busy, but I always make sure to make time for her. We see each other about once a week, as she also works and at the moment I cannot afford a car and I take the BART to visit her. I really love the time we spend together, whether it be on text, call, or in-person. I really do miss her everyday and not a moment goes by where I do not think of her.

I'm someone who's struggled most of my life with anxious attachment, but recently I've been working more on my mental health and am able to feel more grounded and secure in this relationship. She's more of an avoidant type, and when I learned about this I made sure that I help her feel as loved as possible, and she makes me feel the same way. I really have been working a lot to make sure that I take care of myself for the sake of the relationship, and for her.

Recently, I've been overworked to the point where I fall asleep right when I get home. Normally, we stay up together and watch a movie via discord, or we'll just stay up all night on call and I wait for her to fall asleep every night before i fall asleep. This past week was really hectic for me and I ended up sleeping through all of Monday and I felt really bad. She texted and called me so many times, but I never noticed because I was in deep sleep and I ended up falling asleep on call with her last night. I'm really scared because I don't want her thinking I'm losing interest and don't put in anymore effort, and I always make sure I get her food, leave her a sweet note, and just do everything I can to make sure she feels loved and cared for. She sent me tiktoks about how "guys will do everything during the honeymoon phase" and I don't wanna fall into that category. She sent me this other one "guys after cracking deciding they want to switch up", and it made me worried because I don't want her feeling used at all. She said it's a joke, but I'm someone who really over analyze emotion.

She's my first GF, and we recently got intimate for the first time ever and throughout the time I met her to now, I always make sure she feels safe, comfortable, and cared for. I don't wanna make her feel used or any of that. I leave her reassuring messages, but I'm just scared she thinks I'm losing interest. I really love her. Sorry for writing too much, my emotions are heavy rn.

TLDR; how can I reassure my gf that I love her and give her attention when life gets busy sometimes?

Any CNAs here who work as PCTs or ER Techs?

Hi everyone, I'm an EMT with 1+ years in caregiving and about 4 months IFT, and I've been struggling to find work. I live in California and it's oversaturated with EMTs and it's been really hard trying to find work. I figured I apply to PCT and ER technician positions, but I've had no luck landing an interview. I've applied to over 40 positions and have been rejected for all of them.

Recently, I decided to start a CNA course, in hopes of maybe improving my resume and help me land a job. I was just wondering if there's any CNAs here who work in the hospital as PCTs or ER Techs. It's been really demoralizing not being able to land a job in healthcare. I feel like a failure

Difficulty landing a job while in college

19m in college here, I have my EMT license and used to be a caregiver on a contract for all of last year but now it's been really hard finding work. I've applied to most hospitals in the area, and am either rejected or don't get a response back. I've worked in farmers markets, and spent a year in retail throughout highschool.

I've given up finding a job in healthcare and have been applying to most retail stores, grocery stores, hardware stores, etc. but I don't get any interviews. I don't even get a response back from most of them. It's just really hard and demoralizing. I'm tryna support my family, and at the same time have some money I can spend to treat myself. I thought life after highschool would be good, but obviously without money it's really not. I don't know what do anymore, I've applied outside of San Jose also but no luck.

EMT school made me become agnostic and existential

I went through EMT school last winter, and recently passed my NREMT last month. Ever since I passed EMT school and have been focusing on my degree, I realize I've really drifted away from religion and I've also become a very existential person. Most days are great, but some days I will remember my patients and the stuff I saw during clinicals and it really fucked me up. To this day I'm still struggling with not thinking about that. Like I wish i was that young kid again who had just started college and was so excited about life, but now I feel like nothing matters.

Sorry for the vent I don't really have anyone to relate to so maybe I thought I come here. I've been going to counseling for like 2 months now and it's a process. I decided I wanna do pre med and it's just been hella hard to not think about that stuff I saw.

How can I become a photographer for the fire department?

Do fire departments hire people for media purposes? I've fallen in love with photography as a hobby and I've been taking photos of random fires around my area in San Jose and it's just so fucking cool seeing them work. I of course respect the scene and any patients, and make sure I'm not disrupting them while they work. I have my EMT-B but that's about it.

Thinking of going back despite not being on good terms prior to leaving

Title sounds crazy I know, but being an EMT isn't helping me feed myself and I can hardly afford college.

I joined UNIQLO October 2025, and at first I fell in love with the job. Everyone was really chill, my managers were awesome, and I just loved it. Around 2 months in, I started realizing how toxic of a workplace I was in. At that time, I was going through EMT school and also college, and HR would not allow me to create more flexibility so I could have more time to be able to get to work. Being late became a major problem for me, as I'd have to run straight to my car after class and drive 45+ minutes. I was one of 2 full time employees at the store, so we were overworked as fuck.

I performed well, did everything and even went above and beyond. I think stress got to me, because right before Christmas week I caught Pneumonia and was in the hospital for a month, recovering around the end of January. I always wanted to cry on shift and like the time I spent in the hospital made me realize how poor I had been treated while I worked there. There was a lot of racism and it was blatant.

I'm at a point where I can't afford to keep food on the table or pay my tuition. EMT school was something I had done to help me step into medicine and firefighting, I wanna do med school in the future but for now I'm just an EMT. I've been considering applying to Uniqlo, but I don't have a lot of hope, considering what happened.

Am I overqualified for an ED Technician Position?

Hi everyone, I'm an EMT-B with about a year of caregiving experience now, and my previous jobs were mostly retail and farmers markets. I've been looking for work in the ED, and I've applied to Stanford and El Camino health, without much success. The job postings state that they only require a BLS card, and no prior work experience. It's surprising because I'd expect them to look for someone with prior experience, but anyways ya I've just been getting rejected and it's just been really hard. My resume isn't that lengthy, I only mention related experiences and my certifications. I just really want to work and it's been hard. I don't know why and I'm starting to think I'm overqualified. I don't plan on leaving after like a month or two, I want to work for as long as possible to fund my college education and build more clinical experience.

Hi everyone! I recently just got my EMT license and I've been applying to every ambulance company nearby. I'm in California and the oversaturation of EMTs has made it very hard to find work on the bus. I was a care giver prior to EMT school, and I have a lot of experience when it comes to patient care.

Recently, I've been applying to ED technician and Anesthesia tech positions. I applied to Stanford for like 4 jobs, but I'm losing hope. None of the other hospitals near me have any positions. The positions at stanford only require a BLS card, and I have a lot more than just that so I figured I'd have a good shot, but so far they haven't reached out to me. It's really hard just trying to get a job right now and I feel like EMT school was a mistake. Money has been really tight and I'm trying to find work to support my family but at the moment I'm losing hope.

Aside from caregiving, I spent most of my life on a farm selling at a farmers market and tending to crops. I just wanna get out and hopefully go to med school one day.

TLDR; How can I get ER Tech positions?
