Tax implications of sports cards sales?

Complex one- I’m over the threshold so will need to self assess in a few months.

However wondering if anyone had experience of the following:

My account is a personal account, nearly all of what I’ve sold is football cards OR football card boxes.

Most of the cards I’ve sold are cards that have been pulled from boxes I’ve bought, pretty much none for more than the cost of the box: example, £200 football hobby box; maybe sold £50 of cards from it, and kept the rest. Would this just be classed as personal and to not self assess on this at all? (However if I could include the losses that would probabley help for the next part)

The second lot of what I’ve sold is sealed boxes; with these I’ve bought with the intention to sell- example I may have bought a box for £200 and sold for £250. This I know I’ll need to include on the assessment.

The third part is a few cards I’ve bought then re-sold, some for a little bit more than I paid, some for a loss. Some cards I’ve just bought and added to my own collection.

I’ve also got a few sealed boxes that I haven’t sold OR opened yet- can these all be deducted from “profits”?

Basically I’m definitely down money between the boxes I’ve opened and the ones I’ve resold - Could I just include everything in my self assessment? in which case I’ve definitely not made profit. Can I include boxes I’ve not sold yet?

It’s a weird area because it’s mainly for a hobby but I do often buy extra boxes to sell for a profit (to cover some of the costs of the ones I open)

Sorry for the complex question and thanks in advance if anyone has experience themselves.

First ever return request - sealed box

I have received my first ever return request today - it has been raised as a changed my mind NOT and INAD. However the product I sold was a sealed box of trading cards and the buyer has 1 feedback. He received the parcel today, then opened the return a few hours later.

The advice here seems to always be to accept returns? However that seems a bad idea surely- I’m 90% sure this box will be coming back opened - guessing he didn’t get anything good from it.

Should I just reject the return? What’s likely to happen after that?

Edit: Just to clarify for people that don’t know about sports or trading cards - this is a football hobby box. If it’s been opened and the packs opened and searched too, it’s basically worthless upon return - he could’ve taken any valuable cards out and I wouldn’t have known what was in there previously as it was sealed etc. it would not be possible to sell again - no one buys opened boxes in this space.

Pricing bulk numbered cards?

I’ve got a big bundle of numbered cards - around 100 cards - all of them numbered from /50-299. Some are reasonably nice - chrome Haaland /50 for example and quite a few rookies. Some are no name players to /199 so it’s a mixed bag.

How would you price them as a bundle - I have no desire to list individually - can’t really find any precedent for pricing on numbered bundles.

£2-3 a card? Higher/lower? Thoughts please and any past experience.

Topps pristine premier league - auto question

The original description on the Topps website said every box would have two on card autographs plus 1 auto relic.

They’ve now changed that after the pre order has already happened- it no longer says on card autographs- they’ve changed it just autographs.

Any one else notice the same? To advertise it as two on card autographs that would have a much higher value then change it on the description after people have already ordered seems very misleading.

Issues ordering again after a refund (Topps mistake)

A few weeks ago I ordered a jumbo box - which cost £445, in my package I instead received 3 value boxes (value was around £150).

I raised the issue with Topps customer service, provided pictures etc, they pretty quickly gave me a refund on the value difference, and even offered me 10% discount off next purchase. I was annoyed as I didn’t really want mega boxes and the jumbo boxes and were now sold out but whatever, they gave me the refund etc I moved on.

However now it appears they’ve actually banned me from buying off their website with my account?! So I can’t use the discount code anyway and I can’t buy any more hobby boxes for THEIR MISTAKE.

I’ve tried on a few different releases/ products now and it lets me make the purchase then a minute or two later refunds my bank and I get an email to say my order was cancelled.

What did they want me to do just eat a £300 loss so that I would still be able to place orders?!

I guess people have abused the system wrongly claiming refunds in the past but when they’ve actually made a genuine mistake on their end, and now I’m not allowed to purchase any products anymore, does not sit right with me.

Any one else had the same? Any ways around it?

I’ll try create a new account for the next drop and see if that works, but realise they might have placed a ban on my address.

New Topps museum pre order

wtf was that. I tried to place my order at 1:01pm and already sold out. It seems to be getting more and more ridiculous with every single release.

Did anyone actually get anything? Pre order must’ve been about 20 boxes.

What do we have here?! (Birthday pull)

Long time football (soccer, I’m from England) card collector- first time NBA. Ordered a some random chrome blasters across soccer, basketball and football for my birthday.

Pulled this in the last pack of my NBA. From what I can see it’s a pretty big hit right, unless the other sold cards are different parallels? I’m brand new to NBA cards but have opened lots of Topps soccer products.

I am aware of the nba landscape so know he’s a top rookie.

Can anyone provide any more details? How rare is this card? Shall I hold or sell?

Edit: American sports card values really are crazy! I can almost get a Messi autograph for the same price this card seems to sell for!

Thoughts on the Bionic case hits from Topps Chrome UCC?

Super short print, estimated around 20 for each card - but first few that are showing up have been very expensive. Can see how rare they are though by how few have been listed.

For some strange reason I do actually quite like them 😂 but I’m not sure I can justify at current prices they’re listed for.

What do you expect for the future value of these? Do you like them?

Anyone from UK ordered from Topps US website before?

As per title. We seem to get limited on the UK site to 1 or 2 hobby boxes whilst the US site lets you order cases at a time- obviously have to pay extra shipping but I imagine it still works out cheaper than buying from a reseller.

Anyone done this before? Everything shipped and received okay? How were import fees handled?

Topps shrink wrap inside out?

Anyone seen this before?
The boxes were ordered direct from Topps so can’t imagine they’ve been tampered with. Just never seen it before.

Experiences receiving the wrong order?

Order 2x hobby boxes from Topps chrome UCC, just opened my parcel to find 3 mega boxes instead.

Value discrepancy is pretty massive £440 vs £165.

Just opened an email ticket as soon as I saw however the live chat isn’t open till tomorrow.

Anyone had similar and how’s this going to play out? How do I even prove what was really in there?

I have photos of the delivery boxes and incorrect boxes inside.

Gutted to say the least, was planning to rip them open tonight 😞 + the hobby boxes are now sold out, so guessing I won’t be getting a replacement sent?

I’ve recently got a new vehicle (Q4) and the breaker for my charger keeps tripping constantly. (Podpoint solo)

I’ve seen quite a few posts discussing the same however the difference is my wall charger was completely fine last week with our old car (EQC).

Which leads me to believe the car may be the problem this time not the charger. Anyone experience the same? What was the issue/fix?

It does still charge- but it might go for an hour then the breaker trips.

Car was delivered to me fully charged and is a company car, so assume previous owner hadn’t reported any issues to company. Which would point to the issue being the charger and not the car?

I’ll talk to my companies fleet team monday if the issue persists, would just like to know what the issue may be first.

Edit: a few of you have suggested lowering the charge rate, there doesn’t seem to be any way of doing this via the car or the charger app.
