I I wanted to share how I protected myself using Amex. I was considering doing this for a significant purchase but couldn’t find any information, so I hope to help someone else in a similar situation.

I signed a contract with a hardscape company to build a patio for me. They required a 30% down payment, which was acceptable, but I’m always cautious with contractors after the COVID-19. Regardless, I made the deposit on the Amex Gold card for $52,000 (I paid a 2% surcharge, which turned out to be worth it in hindsight).

Six months later, the contractor couldn’t provide accurate renderings and failed to meet the scope of work or the contracted deadlines. I submitted some communication with the contractor to Amex along with the contract and filed a dispute.

The contractor then ghosted me, which was fine. I allowed Amex to handle the situation, and the contractor never responded to Amex either. It took 60 days, but Amex refunded me the entire $52,000, including the surcharge the contractor charged me for using a credit card. It was significantly cheaper than hiring an attorney to recover my money, but I wanted to share this experience in case anyone doubts Amex’s ability to support them in a large service that wasn’t delivered..

The honeymoon phase is over. The x4 glitching is pissing me off. I have a fenced in yard and that has been causing issues. Has anyone else been having issues?

Edit: I woke up on the wrong side of the bed with my mower caught in my fence…my conscious is I have a fence issue and not a mower issue…might buy a 2nd one now for my front yard…
