Schedule and material take-off

Hi all,

I have built a Revit model for a university assignment and I am trying to generate a BOQ/material takeoff from it. I have tried using both Schedule/Quantities and Material Takeoff, but both are mostly coming through empty.

For the schedules, I have tried adding fields such as Family and Type, Count, Length, Area, and Volume, then sorting by Family and Type and enabling Grand totals. I also made sure to tick Include elements in links, but I am still not getting much useful output.

The material takeoff schedules are also empty, even when I try to extract material fields such as Material: Name, Material: Area, and Material: Volume.

I need to extract quantities for items such as glass/windows, roof sheeting, beams, columns, and ideally most of the main model elements for pricing.

Does this usually mean something is wrong with how the model has been built, such as incorrect categories, materials not assigned, elements being in linked files, or the model using generic/imported geometry?

I am happy to share a Dropbox folder with the model if someone is willing to take a quick look and point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

I customise the ribbon buttons, but it keeps resetting and the buttons I remove reappear. Really frustrating. Why is it doing that?

Hi everyone,

I’m using Outlook on my personal computer and I have three email accounts added.

I manually removed/customised some ribbon buttons for each account. However, I’ve noticed that the ribbon buttons for my work and university accounts keep reappearing after a while. My personal account seems to stay how I set it up.

Because this is my own computer, not a work or university-managed device, I’m guessing my work and uni accounts may be applying some kind of Microsoft 365 policy, add-in configuration, or account-based Outlook setting that keeps restoring certain ribbon buttons.

Is there anything I can do locally to stop these ribbon buttons from reappearing, or force Outlook to keep my ribbon customisations?

I’m trying to avoid contacting both Uni IT and Work IT, as I doubt they would change whatever settings or policies are being reapplied.

Has anyone dealt with this before, and is there a practical fix from my end?
