3 month breastfeeding crisis?

My baby is now 12 weeks old and nursing has been so challenging the last two weeks - my heart feels broken and defeated. He has always been a super alert and perceptive baby but during feedings now, he is so distractable and fussy (popping on and off, crying, arching his back) he’s actually stopped gaining weight. I’ve tried offering feeds at different points during his wake windows but he just cries and arches away if I try to offer a “top up” after a poor feed. I normally wouldn’t bother trying to offer if he was refusing but his stalled weight gain has me very concerned. I do have an appointment with an IBCLC and his doctor next week.

We’ve moved all his feedings to a dark quiet room, and I have success feeding him when he’s still half asleep from a nap. When he’s being fussy, often i’m spending 45-60min just changing positions every 2-3min when he starts to fuss to try and empty my breasts. Another weird thing that has been working is placing him on his changing table/the counter and leaning over him to nurse, dunking my nipple in his mouth, rather than holding him. I’m curious if anyone else has had this experience?

I read about the 3 month breastfeeding crisis and that sometimes baby weight slows/stalls around this time and am curious if that sounds like what this is. Breastfeeding is so so important to me so it feels very overwhelming at the thought that we may not be able to continue if his weight gain continues to stall.

Looking for others to share if they have been through something similair and any advice or wisdom to help us through this time

EBF baby growth slowing down

Hi all. My EBF baby is 11 weeks and we’ve noticed his growth has slowed down quite a bit. He was a big eater and a big gainer at first (he gained 78g per day in his first week of life) and consistently was gaining around 40g a day average in his first two months. Now we’ve noticed his weight gain slowing down the last few weeks, sometimes falling below 20g per day.

He is nursing 8-10 times in a 24/hr period (3 overnight feeds). He is producing 6+ wet diapers per day and stooling consistently. The last two weeks he has been quite fussy and distractable at the breast so we’ve switched to me nursing in a dark, quiet room which has helped.

My breasts do feel very soft now compared to before and I’ve read that around this time, milk supply regulates quite a bit due to hormone changes but I can’t help but feel anxious he’s not getting enough.

Has anyone tried power pumping on top of EBF to increase supply?

goldendoodle with uncontrolled allergies

Hi there. We have an 8 year old mini goldendoodle that has struggled with allergies for a few years now. We put her on qpoquel which controlled her allergies well in Fall 2025. Then, we tried to take her off of it around christmas and her allergies came back stronger. We tried cytopoint at that fime, which did nothing, so we did a two week course of twice daily apoquel to get the flare under control before maintaining on once daily apoquel.

We did a food allergy trial on hydrolyzed diet which did nothing which leads our vet to believe her allergies are environmental. We can’t afford to go see a vet dermatologist in our area. We have kept her on the hydrolyzed diet regardless just in case.

She was doing fine on apoquel until we missed a dose one day in April. Since then, her flare has been absolutely out of control. Tried twice daily apoquel to control the flare, that did nothing. Tried just maintaining on hydrolyzed food with one daily apoquel, that did nothing.

We’ve just finished a week of prednisone and antibiotics which finally got everything under control but now that we’re weaning off the prednisone per the vet’s reccomendation, the itching is coming back.

Our vet reccomended cyclosporine which I was really hesitant to try because I am currrently breastfeeding a child and there is a warning on the label not to handle if nursing, but now I feel like we have no other options.

Can anyone share their experience with cyclosporine or if there is anything else we can try? We are in Canada.

Also, this has all been very expensive as well so we don’t want to keep paying for hydrolyzed food if it’s not necessary but we’re also scared to take her off of that in case it results in a worse flare. Has anyone taken their allergic dog off hydrolyzed diet and been ok or is that a terrible idea?

My baby hates the stroller and carriers

Hi all. I have a 10 week old baby who hates the stroller and hates carriers. He only wants to be held in my arms (and very specifically either side carry or walking tummy time lol). He doesn’t have reflux, feeding, or other health issues so we feel this is just a temperament thing - he is a very alert and strong newborn and has lots of big feelings otherwise.

Anyone have a similar baby who can share some tips? We would really i’ve to be able to go for a walk longer than just around a few blocks.

Dry wipes storage

Hi all, we have been using cloth wipes for our newborn baby and have been storing them in a glass dish and soaking them in water daily. I’m realizing now that I’m not sure if this is ok given that it could allow bacteria to grow.

I’ve seen posts here saying that people individually wet the wipes each time of use but I’m not sure that’s realistic for our family.

If we are replacing the wipes daily and only soaking a days worth at a time, is this safe?

Increasing supply at 5 weeks

Hi all! I have been EBF for the last 5 weeks. I initially had an oversupply and very strong let down which has since regulated since seeing a lactation consultant. Now that my supply is regulated and flow is slower, it has exposed some underlying issues with my babies oral development and ability to pull milk efficiently near the end of feeds when the milk flow is slow. It potentially is due to a mild tongue tie and she has referred us to an infant physiotherapist for suck skills training and informed us about options regarding tongue tie release if the physio doesn’t help.

Baby is gaining weight and compensates for the inefficiency by feeding very frequently (14+ times per day).

My lactation consultant said that until we can address the underlying cause, I have the option to re-increase my supply to a slight oversupply to help baby get more per feed so he is feeding less frequently.

I want to do this and I’m wondering what the best way is to increase my supply slightly without being attached to a pump. My lactation consultant reccomended pumping for 10-15min after a few feeds a day so I intend to do this once in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Has anyone done something similair or have recommendations on how to modestly increase supply?
