How much are we all paying for internet

Kicking myself i didn't do this sooner.

Been with TPG since we moved to the Central Coast (5 years now). Just saw my bill went up to $89.99 (was $59 when i started). Quick look over coffee and saw at least 4 options between $43 and $80 a month.

Take Dodo:
$57.99 for exactly the same speed NBN 50/ 500 Mbps (6 month intro price)
Goes up to $87.99 at month 6
Finder offering $110 visa gift card
Can switch anytime after 90 days

That's $302 cheaper in 6 months.

Always just assumed this would be a pain to-do.... 5 mins every 6 months seems like an easy cost saver.

I worked out that working from home gives me an extra two months a year with my little kids

Three days a week at home. 3-4 hours a day I'd otherwise lose to trains (we moved up to the Central Coast).

That's 12 hours a week. Over a year, more than two months of my kids' lives.

Parents have surely been hit the hardest by the return to office mandates. Not just ease of pickups, quick errands at lunch etc but real quality time with our kids.

How much pocket money do you pay your kids?

Kids are 18 months & 4, thinking it’s time to introduce eldest to pocket money.

I saw in a recent parenting report from Finder that 73% of kids receive pocket money, but 42% earn it through chores, while 30% get it unconditionally.

What age did you start, and do you have conditions?

*post corrected to say 18months - realise 18M was confusing!

Why do people choose to pay the Medicare Levy Surcharge?

According to the ATO 885,087 taxpayers paid this additional tax in the 2023-24 tax year, at an average of $1,284. That's up 15% on FY prior so likely nearly 1M this year. https://www.ato.gov.au/about-ato/research-and-statistics/in-detail/taxation-statistics/taxation-statistics-2023-24

I ran the maths again for my whole family, and it's nearly always possible to get at least some level of private cheaper than the surcharge > https://www.finder.com.au/health-insurance/medicare-levy-surcharge-calculator

Medicare Levy Surcharge - don’t forget to add your babies.

Just got a $1600 tax bill because we forgot to add our baby to our health insurance (now 18 months old).

The ATO allows 2 months to add your baby to health insurance after birth.

Had no idea!
