Our group of 6 Canadians (including 3 women) was followed, attacked and robbed in daylight near the Cabo San Lucas marina

I just got home and wanted to share this so other travellers know what to watch for.

On Sunday, September 27, around 4:30 PM, six of us took an Uber into Cabo San Lucas. Three of the six were women. We were walking along the marina near Señor Frog's when a man, roughly late 40s with a rough, homeless appearance, started following us and repeatedly offering us drugs. We said no every time, but he stayed right behind us for about 10 minutes until we reached a taco stand a few blocks away.

After we kept refusing, he changed his approach and told us we owed him money. We had been in town for about 15 minutes and had never spoken to him beyond saying no.

We went inside to eat, hoping he would leave. He didn't. For 20 to 30 minutes he waited outside, watching us and drinking what looked like vodka with a second man, bald with a long grey beard. He kept whistling down the street, and more men gradually joined them, mostly teenagers and men in their 20s. We asked the taco stand staff for help, and they refused.

When our Uber arrived, we went straight to it. The group rushed the car as we got in. We managed to close every door except the rear door on my side. One man held onto that door while another climbed on top of it, and both punched me repeatedly in the face and ribs while trying to pull me out. The driver started moving forward to get us away, and they came with the car. Some were on the roof and others ran alongside. My legs were hanging out of the moving vehicle while they were attempting to pull me out and getting punched, luckily a friend was holding me inside of the car.

The part that scares me most: they were also reaching in to pull two of the women out of the car. The only reason they couldn't reach them was that I was blocking the open door.

We were screaming for help the entire time. Taxi drivers, shop workers and people on the street watched, and no one intervened.

After about a minute of the uber moving slowly down the road while the attackers were holding on to the car, we were stopped in traffic. The men demanded 4500 pesos from an ATM, made me hand over my wallet, and took all my cash (about 2,000 pesos). They then said they would let us go "for now" and told us not to come back to town.

Our Uber driver was outstanding and ended up getting us out safely. I ended up with a swollen face and a torn shirt. The rest of the group was not physically hurt but was badly shaken, and we stayed at our accommodation for the remainder of the trip.

We reported the incident to the Government of Canada and to Uber. We called the Cabo police and made a report but they required about five hours in person downtown to complete the report and after being threatened, we did not feel safe going back.

A local few local residents told us this is not typical for the area and may be a newly forming group.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from visiting, just want people to be aware. Please stay safe.

Edit: Seems many people don’t believe me. Not sure why.. zero reason to make this up. I’ve been to various areas in Mexico on multiple occasions including downtown Cabo and I’ve never had a safety issue before. Wasn’t aware as I should have been as I never thought I would have an issue.

I don’t really have proof other than a video of us in the uber shortly after escaping which I will not post here as it has all of our faces in it. Here’s a photo of my shirt ripped up after being beat and nearly pulled out of the uber. https://imglink.cc/cdn/724cOtw8a4.jpeg

Hi all,

I’ve noticed over the last week or so that NotebookLM is rapidly deteriorating.

It used to be perfect, read all my documents properly, and never made errors.

Now with every question I ask there is one sort of error. It’s reading numbers backwards, not reading the full documents, leaving critical info out, giving me answers that are completely unrelated to the question, etc…

I’m at the point where I can’t use it anymore, it’s way too unreliable and giving wrong info. Has anyone found any alternatives that are better than NotebookLM? Has anyone tried Claude Projects? I have one notebook with about 150 pdf sources of 1-15 pages each.
