Help identifying a chrome & glass coffee table – high quality, but no maker's mark
Hi everyone,
I could really use your collective expertise on this one. I recently picked up the coffee table shown in the pictures at a house clearance, and honestly, I'm quite taken with the piece… but completely stuck when it comes to identifying it.
About the table itself:
- Dimensions: 130 × 100 cm
- Glass top: approx. 35 kg, 12 mm thick, clear
- Frame: chrome-plated, approx. 15 kg
- Construction: The legs aren't welded but plugged into the frame and held in place by an internal threaded grub screw with an expansion mechanism, creating a force-fit connection — a construction method I've otherwise only seen on really high-end Italian or Belgian manufacturers from the 70s/80s
- Condition: truly excellent, which I'm sure is also down to the extremely high build quality. The chrome is nearly flawless, and the glass top has no scratches or chips
I'm reasonably into designer furniture and can usually place most pieces stylistically at least, but with this one I'm completely stuck. Stylistically it clearly points toward late 70s / early 80s design, but I can't find a comparable model with exactly this leg construction and these proportions.
I haven't found any maker's mark, plaque or label so far. I wanted to take the frame apart to see if there might be a stamp or number on the inside of the joint or on the grub screw itself — but I haven't dared to go that far yet. One of the grub screws does turn out further, but I'm worried that with too much force I might damage the internal expansion mechanism. Given the condition of the table, I really don't want to risk anything.
Maybe one of you will recognise the table straight away, owns one yourself, or can point me in the right direction for further research. Any hint at all, manufacturer, designer, model name, or even just "I've seen that somewhere before" would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks a lot in advance :)
