PSA: Bears possibly living near bike path between Wilson and Namaqua

This is that little section that used to be gravel until last year.

I was going east the other evening and saw a huge chonker right on the trail just a few hundred feet from Wilson.

Obviously turned around and took Namaqua back to where I was staying.

Yesterday I was heading east again and a kid standing on the hill above yelled out to me something about bears. I stopped and he told me that his mom had seen "a few" that morning.

Seems pretty far from the mountains for them to be spending this much time if they don't have a den in the near. The closest I've seen one before is about two miles west, which makes more sense as it's much less dense and trafficked.

That said, I just googled it while I was writing this post, and apparently CPW has announced increased bear activity due to drought conditions. I found one article about a woman in West Loveland who found a bear in her house, and a post on Facebook of someone saying they saw a bear downtown on 5th Street (!). That's crazy lol.

Long story short, be safe if you're walking or riding the trails. Bears at this time a year are not super aggressive as long as you don't startle them. Make noise as you're traveling through vegetative areas like the path I mentioned, and keep trash secured as far as downtown.

Bears are most active near dusk and dawn.

It would be unbearable if you were eaten.

I got a very convenient free flight change today

I don't know why I thought booking a flight that departs at 9:50pm would be a good idea. Ok I do, it was cheap. But that gets me to my destination at close to midnight, and then I need to wait an hour for the shuttle, and then another hour to get home. All told I'd get home around 2am.

But today I got a notification the my flight was delayed by two hours. I didn't get a notification telling me I was eligible for a free switch, but I knew I was. Of the three flights to my destination, two had middle seats in the back and one had a first row aisle. Didn't even hesitate, it was 5 hours earlier.

But the funny part is that ten minutes later I got another notification from Google wallet that my original flight was rescheduled for only 8 minutes later than the original. Pretty sure that if I hadn't done it in that ten minute span it wouldn't have worked, but I'm not 100% on that.

Currently writing this from bed, not sitting in a shuttle!

  1. Are you ok?

  2. Was that thing you took down a red light camera? If so, how do you feel about inadvertently becoming a hero against your will? If not, what was it?

  3. So what was with the lady who hit you? Was she drunk? On her phone?

  4. Did she get arrested?

  5. Do you think the homeless guy who helped out was doing it out of a true sense of humanity and duty, or do you think he may have been motivated by the prospect of a reward? This question sort of speaks to your views on human nature.

  6. Did you have to get towed or were you able to drive out of there?

  7. Would you rather fight one horse sized duck, or 50 duck sized horses?

If the dude doesn't end up showing up, other people should feel free to answer.
