Observer Loadout + Interesting Story

I actually found this Unusual while browsing backpack.tf, and it had a pre-applied description: "observe". And so, I shall.

Since the Platypus 70 was part of the Point Break character pack/DLC, there is now only 2 F2P sniper rifle options left:

  • North Star (secondary rifle), which requires another sniper rifle to unlock
  • Flintlock Freddy, a seasonal sniper rifle (only accessible through mods otherwise)

So, I think there needs to be a new F2P Primary Sniper rifle option to fill in the gap that the Platypus 70 left.

My personal picks and ideas are:

  • Any WW1/WW2-era serviced bolt-action, especially those with high surplus (ex. Kar-98k, Lee-Enfield, Springfield M1903)
  • MRAD/98B, an American bolt-action rifle from Barrett in service from 2013 onwards,
  • SSG-08, an Austrian bolt-action rifle from Steyr in service throughout the Eurasian continent.

The main reason I chose these, is because they're contemporary bolt-action rifles for when PD2 occurs (2012 onwards). The MRAD/SSG-08 have unique visual profiles, which I think is important in any loadout-based shooter. And, while the WW1 rifles already have representation with the Nagant, I think having a second would be fine for gameplay and having a more "realistic" option for a black-market firearm.

I was trying to come up with a better analogue to the Platypus 70... but the Winchester Model 70 is the most generic bolt-action I can think of, and the Remington Model 700 already exists in PD2 as the R700. Plus, I think they just look really... boring? So I would prefer to stay away from bog-standard bolt-actions that look similar (and, WW1 rifles scratch a similar visual itch). And, other sniper rifles I can think of are either too high-caliber or expensive/luxury for what should be a more "grounded" base-game experience (Intervention, Barrett M107, Mini Fix, etc.)
