Transitioning from undergrad background in humanities to MA in Communication. Any tips?

I earned my BA in history with a minor in English at a small, private college. I earned the BA about 10 years ago, and went to work in insurance. Now, I have recently finished my first graduate semester in a communication MA program at a much larger, public university. I have done well for the first semester (A's and getting a jump start on a thesis); however, I need some guidance in research in communication.

Has anyone ever made this jump from humanities research to social science research? What made the transition easier for you and what insughts do you have?

Had to get a drug test for no reason

I just need to rant about something that happened to me the other night and it shows how politicians aren't regulating anything. For context, I am an American and live in a southern state and area that has a problem with homeless and the city police. *(there's even a court case about the city police having a policy of hostility towards homelessness)*

I pulled over the other night because I had a migraine. I have been having them a lot lately, even with medicine, and they sometimes mess with my vision. I pulled into the ER parking lot. I waited for it to get less busy and to see if the headache would go away on its own.

At that time, I fell asleep and I was woken up by the police surrounding my car and shining a light in my face. I rolled down the window. They told me they could smell Marijuana coming from my car and that I was high. They asked what I was doing there, too.

I told them why I was there and then that I wasn't high, that I have nothing and do not smoke. The cop argued with me. He didn't id himself, did not run my tag, did not id me, but did tell me I wasn't going to drive. Radioed the hospital and told them I was coming in that I was intoxicated.

Anyway, I get in and tell them what's going on and demand a drug test. I get the drug test and alcohol test, blood and urine, and of course all is negative. I called the police to complain and learn that there was no police report, no body cam, no call, and no documentation of anything.

I then call my city council member and my state representative. I wanted someone just to listen to me. Neither will call back, email back, or write back. It just infuriates me something like this was allowed to happen. The police department has even blocked any comments on its Google listing and its Facebook page.

TL;DR

The cops forced me into a drug test bc I was asleep in my car. They would not let me drive and there is no record to show it. No politician on the local or state level will call me back, and I feel unheard.
