Did switching to VR make you a better player in IL2 or WW2 DCS?

I've been playing a lot of IL2 for the past few months and I've read mixed thing about VR. My gut feeling is that VR would probably help solve a lot of things that I feel are particular weaknesses of mine such as situational awareness, losing track of my target in close maneuvers or if I need to look down at my instruments.

But I've also read a lot about how people don't like it, and feel the cons outweigh the pros. My understanding is the most elite players still prefer a monitor for the spotting and ID advantages.

I'm curious to hear the personal experiences of people who switched to VR and if they felt that it helped them get significantly better at the game, or it just added immersion? I'd also be interested to hear if switching to an ultrawide monitor was helpful for anyone in terms of their actual in game performance.
