I can hardly believe that I feel the need to explain this, but a lot of people on this subreddit seem to struggle with understanding something as simple as what an "experiment" is, so... 🙄

Cambridge dictionary defines "experiment" as: "a test done in order to learn something or to discover if something works or is true" 😌

please note that it does not define it as a "revival", a "finished product" or anything else along those lines, even though a quick glance at this subreddit would make you believe precisely that. 🤨

Bungie made vault breaker as a test, in order to learn, not as a "revival", in order to "save marathon". bringing in and retaining heaps of new players was never the intention behind this endeavour. 😒

let's try to cultivate a healthier relationship with the basic understanding of language, by practicing our reading comprehension and maintaining a clear intention of using words, which, by definition, accurately represent what we're trying to convey! 🗣️

this would result in a nicer and more constructive place to discuss the wonderful masterpiece known as marathon, for all of us! 🥰

I don't know about you, but I would greatly prefer that, over filling the feed with incomprehensible bullshit, indistinguishable from what you'd get by mindlessly pressing the suggested words on the keyboard of your phone. 🛐

I absolutely love marathon. it's probably my favourite game of all time and I play it almost all the time! 🐸

I don't really like PvP, though, especially not so called "hardcore" experiences. these are probably big reasons why extraction shooters really are not for me. 😞

I'm also not a big fan of presenting the narrative of a game through more or less hidden lore. instead, I like when there is a story to actually play through, especially when said story is good (unlike the current "story" of marathon) 😌

i also think a good artstyle significantly enhances the gaming experience. at the moment, marathon doesn't achieve this, in my opinion, to be honest. 😶

in other words, if the new mode just removes PvP, offers more casual gameplay, is more narrative driven, changes the curent lore and changes the artstyle, my favourite game would be even better!! 😊

i don't think i have more trust in anyone or anything than Bungie, so i'm absolutely sure that they're working on all of this as we speak. i can't wait for the reaction from the haters when Bungie manages to improve a masterpiece! 😂

I just came home from a wonderful vacation, only to be met with the fact that marathon isn't doing very well, like, at all!! 😱

I hate to admit it, but unfortunately, it does seem like the hate campaign is winning the war! 😞

if I had known that this would happen, I never would have left Tau Ceti for that meditation retreat! that's on god!! 😡

as I'm sure most of you already know, I've spent a lot of time playing the extraction shooter called "marathon" since its launch earlier this year. 🐸

now, I'm heavily considering quitting the game... 😳

these thoughts started yesterday, after I told the runners in my discord about the minorities I belong to. 😬

they told me that they "don't give a fuck" and that it "doesn't matter", which obviously made me feel neglected and attacked at the same time. 🥲

I thought that the marathon community was the most welcoming and accepting one in all of gaming, so finding out that it's so hateful really shocked and hurt me. 😞

now, I don't know if I can keep going, even though I've been having a blast for about 16 hours a day 😭

how does finding out about parts of my identity, which have always been there, change anything about our time together? 🤨

it's so stupid. marathon players are stupid. 🙄😒

as I'm sure most of you have noticed, marathon is suffering from several high-impact bugs, many of which have returned after being "fixed" in the past. 🤨🙄

this is making the game very frustrating to play, so I decide to close it and go to Reddit instead. 🙃

the main subreddit "escorts me out" for acting in "bad faith" and having "no genuine interest in contributing to actual discussion of the game" 🫪

so I come here instead, only to be met with waves of downvotes, combined with hurtful insults and accusations. 😳

people say I'm a "maracuck" / "maraclown", that I'm "paid by bungo" and/or "severely mentally challenged", among other things. 😡

in order to feel better, I call my best friend, who says I should "get a life", leave my mom's basement and "actually do something for once" 🥲

i end the call and to be honest with you, i cry a little bit, before deciding to actually try leaving the comfort of the basement, like my friend had suggested. maybe there is more to life than playing marathon after all. 🤔

outside, it feels like everyone is looking at me in disgust. it's like they know that I'm a marastan and that they think it's repulsive. 😱

"it's all just in my head, surely", I tell myself. that's when an old lady approaches me. "are you alright, honey? when's the last time you showered? do you need a place to stay?" I didn't say anything in return; I just started running back home, with tears in my eyes yet again. 😭

there's nothing left, only marathon, so I boot it up. i feel a lot better, instantly, before even starting a run, but still can't help feeling like life as a marastan is getting really rough 😞

obviously, marathon's artstyle is not a new topic around here, by any means. I've read quite a few opinions about it already and I'm sure most of you have, as well. 🛐

however, i aim to provide a fresh perspective on this topic, that hopefully brings something new to the table. 🐸

some people think that marathon looks "gay" or "woke", some people say that it looks like "colourful vomit", some people express that it's visually confusing; others simply claim that the game "looks like shit". 😱

these different groups of people may not see the game in the same way, but what they do have in common is that they often blame marathon's problems on its artstyle. 👀

now, I don't agree with any of these people in terms of their visual analysis (except the "gay" part xD), but I truly do think that they're right about that last point. 🤔

I think there's a problem with the artstyle. 😳

I mean let's think about it for just a second! there's a ton of people who are looking at the game, while barely anyone is actually playing it! why is that? how do we make sense of it? 🤨

well, here's my explanation: marathon oozes style! the game is straight up mesmerising! 😍

when I think back, even I, who might be one of the biggest marathon fans out there, have spent more time stunlocked by the fidelity of its looks, rather than engaging in its mechanics. 😅

that's probably where Bungie made a mistake, which they very rarely do. they cooked too hard! 😉

i'm sure the steam charts would look much better, if the game itself looked worse! 😂
