Stranded in Madrid

I had flight from Lisbon (flight IB0540) with connection in Madrid (flight AA95) and final destination NYC that was supposes to arrive at 12:35PM EST.

I checked in for the 1st flight yesterday online through Iberia website (and got boarding pass) but when I tried to check in for 2nd flight, confirmation code from Iberia did not work.

It turned out American Airlines operating the 2nd flight sent a different confirmation code which I then used on the AA website. They forwarded me to the Iberian airline website and I was still unable to check in.

I called American Airlines and they informed me that I would have to get the 2nd flight boarding pass at the transfer desk upon arrival to Madrid. The 1st flight landed approx 15min late, I ran to the desk for the 2nd flight and was told that I could not get a boarding pass and could not board the flight without one. I tried to explain both issues (that I couldn’t get my boarding pass online, the airline instructed me to get it at the connecting airport, and the 1st flight was delayed). American Airlines directed me to Iberia’s Help Desk which is populated by workers from South Europe handling company.

They didn’t help & told us to call Iberia directly. Iberia reps over the phone told us it was Finnair’s responsibility because I booked the flight with them. We called Finnair and they said it was Iberia’s responsibility because it was their flight that delayed us. I have been going back & forth between the “Iberia Help Desk”, Iberia over the phone, Finnair over the phone. None are willing to help us rebook or take responsibility.

TLDR: Stuck in Madrid airport because we were unable to get boarding passes with online check-in, told by the airlines (both Iberia, American Airlines) to get boarding passes at the connecting airport. 1st flight slightly delayed. Once arrived in Madrid & rushed to gate, American Airlines refused to give us boarding passes or let us board. Now, none of airlines are helping us rebook. Please help. ANY advice would be appreciated. At least 4 of us having same experience.

VPN JUNE 2026

Leaving for China from the United States in 2 days. Which VPNs currently have the best chance of working there? I need to keep track of GMail. My phone is locked so cannot use e-SIM.

Thank you in advance everyone for your advice!
