Colonoscopy day

Hi, I got a date for my colonoscopy, it’s an afternoon appt and day before my friends wedding. I was going to push it but husband said the next day I might be fine to attend friends wedding? Looking for advice from those who’ve had one before re recovery.

Colonoscopy

8months pp and have been struggling with constipation, both during pregnancy and pp(have tried everything - water, fibre etc). I also have had occasions of rectal bleeding, incomplete emptying and rectal/lower back pain. I went to a colorectal consultant who did a sigmoidoscopy and it was clear, told me it was haemorrhoids and/or fissure (even though scope was clear) and slow gut motility. Told me to take more steroid suppositories and stool softeners (never had an issue before pregnancy). Did that and went to a specialised clinic who confirmed no fissures/haemorrhoids. Dr said we could now do a full scope (wish we had this to start with!). I’ve never had a full colonoscopy before and very anxious about it when you read the risks etc. Just wondering if anyone could share their experiences/tips?

Colonoscopy anxiety - what would you do?

I’m 8months postpartum and had some bowels issues during pregnancy which have spilled into postpartum. Namely, rectal bleeding a few times, incomplete emptying sensation, constipation and rectal/lower back pain. Went to a GI, all stool tests, bloods and sigmoidoscopy clear. I was still having issues so went back, he said it slow gut mobility and no presenting as cancer or ibd, just take stool softeners indefinitely (I never had issues pre pregnancy). Then he emailed to say he can proceed with a colonoscopy if I want to. I’m between just letting it go, especially if he’s not concerned, and girl get the colonoscopy/better safe than sorry. Only reason I’m putting it off is I’ve such anxiety about it/perforation, and dr seems to be kinda dismissive.

Is anyone’s pain in lower back/rectum?

Hi, recently been to a pt after months of dr appts with drs (mainly GIs) to find sources of pressure/pain/incomplete emptying in lower back and rectum. She suggested PN could be to blame and now starting to look into it. Just wondering if anyone else has similar symptoms? And if so, did nerve block help?

If you had this, what helped?

Hi 👋 currently waiting on my pt appt but I have an incomplete emptying bowel problem where I go each day and stools are hard tipped then soft. Sometimes I’ll need to go again later and it’s small pebbles so it’s like I can’t finish in one go. I’m 7 months postpartum. Did you find something to help?

How long did your postpartum constipation last?

Hi, I’m 7 months postpartum and struggled with constipation during pregnancy. It hasn’t really let up postpartum. I still go every day but it’s hard (sorry tmi!). I’ve had bloods done, stool samples and a sigmoidoscopy. All normal. My gastro consultant said to just take stool softener and see how it goes but I’ve never had issues before pregnancy and just not sure if this is normal? I’m not bf and eating fibre/drinking a lot of water. Tia!
