My KDE Setup

Long-time GNOME user here, currently trying out KDE. I actually tried KDE about 2–3 years ago, but I really didn't like the out-of-the-box experience back then. Everything felt a bit inconsistent and out of place.

One thing I'll always give GNOME credit for is how coherent and polished it feels. The design language is very consistent throughout the entire desktop experience. That said, I've always been frustrated by how often you need extensions or additional tweaks just to get what I consider basic functionality.

KDE, on the other hand, has come a long way. The amount of built-in functionality available out of the box is honestly top-tier, and that's something I've really appreciated. I still wasn't a huge fan of the default look, though, so I decided to go all-in on customization this time around.

So far, I'm absolutely loving it. KDE feels incredibly powerful while still letting me make the desktop look exactly how I want.

Ghost of Tsushima Mod Menu crashes on Proton/CachyOS – anyone got it working?

I'm trying to use the Ghost of Tsushima Mod Menu mod on Linux (7900XT, CachyOS, GNOME, Wayland).

The mod installs by dropping d3d12.dll and GoT_ModMenu.dll next to GhostOfTsushima.exe.

The game launches and runs perfectly without the mod. As soon as I add the mod's d3d12.dll, the game crashes during startup.

What I've tried:

  • Disabled AMD Frame Generation
  • Tested with Heroic and UMU/Proton
  • Disabled MangoHud
  • Verified the game works normally when the mod DLLs are removed

Wine crash log shows:

Unhandled exception: page fault on execute access to 0x0000000000000000
RIP: 0000000000000000

The crash happens very early during D3D12 initialization.

Has anyone managed to get this mod working on:

  • Proton GE
  • Proton Experimental
  • Steam Deck
  • Linux in general?

If so, which Proton version and launch options are you using?

Looking for my first soldering iron/kit for mouse switch replacement (complete beginner)

I've been trying to get into DIY repairs and electronics for a while, and I think it's finally time for me to learn soldering.

I already have my first project lined up: my Logitech MX Master 3S is acting up again. The left mouse button was replaced about a year ago, but now it's starting to have issues once more. Instead of paying someone else to do it, I'd like to try replacing the switch myself.

I found a guide that looks pretty comprehensive:
https://kanishk.io/posts/fixing-lmb-on-logitech-mx-master-3s/

My main question is: what soldering iron (or complete kit) should I buy as a beginner?

I'm completely new to soldering. I don't know anything about different tips, temperatures, firmware, portable vs wired irons, etc. Every YouTube video seems to recommend something different. Some say to get a traditional wired station, others recommend portable USB-C irons, and then there are multiple variants of those as well. At this point, I'm thoroughly confused.

My budget is around ₹2,000–₹2,500 to start with, although I'm not completely fixated on the price if spending a little more makes a huge difference.

The MX Master 3S switch replacement will be my first project, but I'd also like something that won't become obsolete immediately if I end up enjoying the hobby.

What would you recommend for someone in my position? Any specific models, kits, or things I should avoid?
