Shining Strike showcase 5/19/26

I posted a while back about a Shining Force 3 fan game I'm developing, and I wanted to wait until I had something more substantial to show to post about it again, so here we are!

I've tweaked the input parser a little bit since this video so I drop my rekkas less often now, but I've finally been able to start putting the online play through its paces, playing probably 50+ matches in the last few days. Here's a best-of-three set that I recorded to get some representative gameplay.

I'm hoping to get a playable build out for people to dabble with in the next couple months (I'd like to finish this character as well as add the second one), but I'm curious to get any initial thoughts on the gameplay. I know it can be harder to judge from just watching rather than being able to play it, but I'm trying to get everything feeling as good as possible before I start work on the second character so I'm doing less going back and revising of the core systems over and over again.

Questions are welcome as well, but I'm primarily looking for positive or negative feedback. Most of my personal contacts are more versed in Shining Force 3 than in fighting games, so I want to reach out further for thoughts from those more familiar with the genre.

Don't want to post about this project too often so I'm not spamming, but since on my initial post about Shining Strike there was interest in further updates -

I'm still working on this thing! Finally got the opportunity to play some real online matches and I'm very happy with how the game is feeling.

Synbios's moveset is about halfway done, and sound and voiceclips should be soon down the pipeline, as well as more visual effects. Once I get him wrapped up (or mostly wrapped up, at least), I'm planning to move on to Medion. I'd like to release a build for public play soon, but I might wait until Medion is playable so you've got at least two characters to pick from.

Not much else to say right now besides getting into the weeds on programming and balance decisions, but feel free to ask questions or give feedback! While I'm happy with how the game is feeling so far, it's definitely still in a very malleable phase and any kind of interest in it is one of the big motivators to keep me working on it.
