You all lamented my can opening techniques last week, now see what it was all for!

I finally got the last layer of finish on this weekend, plus the buff with tung oil. I think it turned out really well! I really like the color, and it has a beautiful shine. I intend to put a rubber cap on the bottom for protection and some leather for a grip, but otherwise it's about how I want it to be!

I want to thank you all for your advice, I really appreciate it (and God knows I needed it!) I really quite enjoy this hobby, and it's nice to get in the know on all those things I should know from such nice people!

Also included is the skunk who came by to investigate my work while I was taking photos 😄

How do I seal/dispose of wood stain? (and other related questions)

Hey all. I'm making a big wizard staff out of a branch I found while hiking for the Renaissance season coming up.

The issue is stains: I almost never work with stains, and made quite a few rookie mistakes with the opening and use of them (I, for some reasons beyond even my own mind at the time, used a can opener, and now that's covered in stain). Now, I have a lot of stain left over, some of which I'm struggling to re-seal with a mallet, which I thought would be simple but alas it's not.

Also, the top of the open small can is stuck at the bottom of the can itself, unable to be retrieved, so I think that might be a problem in of itself.

- Do I have any hope of re-sealing these cans?

- If not, where do I dispose of them? They're oil-based, I hear that matters

- Do I get rid of the can opener?

Pictures attached.
