Awning

Hey all,

Looking for recommendations for awnings . Idc if it’s portable , hooks into a roof rack or any other system.

Ideally it will hold up to wind rain and snow.

Appreciate it!

X dome versions

So there are all these different iterations of the x dome but I really don’t know what each one provides . Short poles, solids, aluminum, carbon fiber . How do I know what to get / what’s right ?

X dome 1+ or 2

Hey all, typically backpack in the Sierras Tahoe , desolation , inyo , Yosemite etc. started shopping new tents and like the Xdomes. Only question is does the tent work well on rock and rocky terrain such as that area? I see a lot of comments about stakes and guy outs so worried about that on really rocky areas

Active to Reserves

Hey all ,
I’m 18 soon to be 19 years AD. I’m a 1A AFSC and have flown my whole career. Trying to get back to California (home) but it seems like the active route that won’t be do able. I’m approaching a PCS with orders going to drop in the next 8-12 months . I don’t want to take on orders to a place I don’t want to go thus looking at reserves in Cali . They have spots available I’ve talked to a recruiter and started moving the ball that way but I have a few questions :

Can I live on base ?

Can you do skill bridge in the reserves or use it to find a career?

What do people do for jobs when getting paid part time in the reserves ?

Bah/ Bas? Do I get that?
TSP can I contribute to it?
Healthcare/ TriCare?
Tuition Assistance?
Commissary/ Gym Access?

Thanks for any help and please feel free to send any thoughts or suggestions on any thing that you think would be helpful!

Tents question

Through my work I’ve got a 30% off that I could use towards a UL 2 Copper spur . I’m a big Nemo Stan and am weighing out the best option. I’ve also considered slingfin portal 2.

For 30% off would you get the UL2?

Say buy once cry once and spend the money on the Nemo Osmo dagger 2p?

Or go out the window and grab slingfin?

Primary use is the Sierra Nevadas. Not going to be thru hiking but a section hike or two is on the books as well, I would like it to be able to handle the wind rain and some snow (not a ton but if it happens I don’t wanna get chased out ).

I’m not an ultra lighter typically run around in the 20lb range so idc about that either. Just want to handle the weather , have a good vestibule , and be comfy

Nightside series

I know we all love our Sanderson and Hobb’s books but I wanted to give a shout out to Tales from the Nightside by Simon R Green

Story is about John Taylor a private eye who operates in the underworld of London . He has a special ability to find that which is hidden. It’s an incredible series that deals with aliens, angels , demons and a lot worse. Highly highly recommend!
