I know why the caged Bonk sings.

Bonk will be liberated soon. Not a fan of grading, but this was a great grab even relative to recent loose carts.

Arkista is dirty as sin, gonna need to give the shell a good bath and investigate the PCB a bit.

Trojan 3-screw was a long search, just like the 5-screw Alpha Mission.

Bought an Impossible Mission II SEI Variant last week and ended up receiving a rare Australian top-booter, so lucky to find an decent quality actual copy at a store near me this week. Still missing the other two variants.

King Neptune was overpriced, but I got it down a fair bit based on the bulk of other titles. Weird weird game.

Stunt Kids is such classic codemasters, like the o.g. Trials. So thoroughly unforgiving lol.

Mickey is Mickey. Bright side, closed the loop on Disney NES titles.

P'radikus Conflict is potentially awesome, like a more complex Lunatic Fringe. Gonna have to find a manual though, because the systems are odd.

Touchdown Fever is one of the worst football games I've ever played. Four total plays on offense, neither run acts like a run, and the ball flies like a laser from A -> B, so anyone in the path is grabbing it. Absolute nonsense, but somehow running the ball is fun while you've got it :)

3-Screw Mighty Bomb Jack is another random long search, just always finding 5-screws.

Monster Truck Rally is so cool but plagued with difficult camera angles that make it confusing when climbing towards the player... I got smoked in my first race.

Master Chu feels like The Legend of Kage on crack. Maybe it's good, but it's gonna be annoying finding out.

Nobunaga II is gonna be amazing, I'm sure. KOEI historical strategy titles always slapped. And I LOVE those full size PCBs. Probably needs a new battery, but I'm planning to replace my whole lot of gold back batteries soon.

And the last Arkista is a dupe I bought accidentally because I legit blacked out and forgot there was one in the mail lol. So yeah, if the one I bought in person doesn't clean up and run straight, not loading any sleep.

This brings me to damn near full. Woohoo!! Good hunting, have fun y'all!

Wacky Races has entered the chat

It's a beautiful thing, so so close now :)

16 carts left, plus another 20ish variants, maybe around 40 total with some homebrews I'm chasing. Then I'm pivot to the occasional manual and/or box to spruce up the collection... Maybe some little figures, stuffies, and other collectibles to fit my games.

What do y'all do when you finish the collection? I don't want to move on to another platform, this was always the one for me.

I'm legit concerned about Challenge of the Dragon, lol. My first few seconds had me doubting it will deliver anything but frustration. Literal first fight had me second-guessing myself, and enemy scripting is super funky. Soundtrack gives me legend of kage vibes though, so maybe there's something there...

But overall, I'm so excited to crack into all of these tomorrow. Four great pickups at I close in on the final ~40 truly unique original NES titles to go (~80 more if I'm including variants). I'm not chasing Stadium Events, any campus or world challenge carts, test carts, etc. I'm also not interested in the Panesian trio of lewds, not because of the sexy nature but because they look terrible.

Like most American Video Entertainment carts, couldn't get Wally Bear fired up on the Retro Champ, so I'll have to use an actual console in the morning. Got tied up in kiddo bedtime routine and couldn't run downstairs :)

Times of Lore feels like a game that should have a battery backup, but for whatever reason that was vetoed? I dig the art style for the most part but I'm afraid the adventure style interface is gonna get annoying over (relatively short) time.

Krion Conquest is what I'm most excited for. It feels like someone sat down after playing a few minutes of Mega Man and said, "Bet. But let's make him a witch. And let's make the enemies nearly impossible to predict and/or defend against."

Boss was probably like, "Sure, sounds rad. And you work up to that over time?"

And dev was like, "Nah, right away. I want them to die on the second screen. Maybe twice. And I do not want them to feel comfortable for a single second that follows."

And so with that, Vic Tokai released a truly abusive non-Capcom Rockman. And then apparently made it even harder in NA by removing or reducing continues... I'm stoked to find out and more than likely give up.

How did MARVEL not understand their own character? He's not too heavy to jump. He's magically unstoppable. Nobody thought to push back on that? Was the assumption that if he did ever jump, gravity would also be unable to stop him, and he's just launch into space? Then what keeps him grounded as it is? Dude's not even a mutant, and the demon doesn't want him floating away...

That said, I can imagine an asymmetrical moveset that would be pretty awesome if he couldn't jump but had a lot of upward facing attack options to just grab shit and smash. Oh well.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is 100% a Gameboy game that they released on NES. It's so weird that this and the Taito title both came out with effectively the same packaging but totally different gameplay. It's not unfun, but it's pretty janky for sure. Hate that old Ubisoft luck, it's very 3DO but so much worse.

Casino Kid II is a silly little thing, but feels a lot like modern mobile casino games like Big Fish Casino or Zynga Poker, in that you have a light wrapper of a story with a strong fundamental card game DNA. The globetrotting idea is fun, but why is my Brazilian poker dealer a southern belle blonde lady? Wouldn't have taken much to get the cultural elements right.

Solitaire is solitaire. It works. It's as clunky as possible given the UI, even for that time.

Ultimate League Soccer may actually be very good, but I'm having a pretty hard time distinguishing pass from shot on goal, and aiming on goal is pretty miserable for a new player. Gonna read the manual and see if a second attempt yields fruit :)

Also grabbed a Twin Famicom that I am dying to inbox and test tomorrow, but I ran outta time before bedtime for my lil dude.

Good luck and happy hunting y'all!

Any pointers, lemme know.

I'm not actively seeking stadium events, nor the steamy casino trilogy. Not that many truly heavy hitters left, but some pretty obscure ones that are tough to find in decent shape at a fair price. Already picked up the 5x highlighted titles, but there are also some variants beyond what's listed.

Looking forward to finding fun ways to expand this specific collection, picking up books, figures, boxes, etc, along the way. No real interest in moving into another platform (e.g., SNES) as these are the games that shaped me. Genesis did some heavy lifting, but I can't begin to think about storage for that set lol.

Happy hunting y'all, it's been a hell of a ride.

Cowboy Kid is the heavy hitter, but no slouch in Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers 2, Linux Spacehead, Jimmy Connors Tennis, Dudes with Attitude, and Gold Medal 92 rounding out the half dozen. Also finally got all my Chromatic games boxed and shelved, and a few new famicom pickups cleaned up to play. Ordered a few cool Famicom Disk System titles which should show up next week, can't wait to check that system out.

It took a LOT of self restraint to not pick up an additional dozen or so titles that were starting at me on the shelf but weren't fiscally responsible. Like, a lot of self restraint.

I think this brings me to 781 unique official pre-96 releases at this point inclusive of variants. Getting so so close :)

Happy hunting y'all, best of luck out there!

Adding these latest gems to the shelf and table, very exciting pickups.

Dragon Fighter is immaculate and will probably be headed to the "elite" display. Pretty fun little side scroller, akin to a less optimized ninja gaiden on first play.

Wayne's World is straight insanity and I kinda can't believe it's a finished product lol. First level playing as Garth in a music shop nightmare with a gun? Wtf. Lol.

Rollerblade Racer makes me wonder, did they play paperboy once and decide I could make that. Kinda. But not good... Certainly no reason to own it CiB, but that's how I found it after a lot of searching.

Anyways, getting closer and closer to complete, and loving every minute of it. Happy hunting y'all :)
