Just beat the gold edition of The Legend of Zelda!

I just finished The Legend of Zelda (Gold Edition) and it took me exactly two days from start to finish. I started Saturday morning around 11:00 AM and just wrapped up Sunday at 7:00 PM.I’ll admit, I had to turn to Google for a little help along the way! The last time I played this was over 20 years ago. Now, I’m moving on to Quest 2 before jumping into the Nintendo 64 version. When was the last time you guys played Zelda, and how long did it take you to beat it?

Complete NTSC, happy 4th y'all!

Here is my complete NTSC set, loose with some mixed in manuals and boxes. I'm technically still hunting for Myriad and Cheetahmen II, but they're barely real so I'm gonna celebrate :)

Love to hear your thoughts on additions to spruce up the wall storage and better showcase stuff like boxes.

And no, no interest in stadium events or the porno slots trilogy. Next up is collecting PAL exclusives, some of which are already mixed in here (e.g., Aladdin, Asterix).

Wishing you all a great holiday weekend, just finished the France v Paraguay match, about to walk the doggo. Good luck, happy hunting.

Working on this game with my son.

Hey everyone,

My son and I have been working on a NES homebrew game Legionnaires. It’s been a fun little project for us, and we’ve put together a playable demo on itch.io.

We’re still learning and improving things step by step, so we’d really appreciate feedback from people who enjoy retro games or NES homebrew. Any thoughts on gameplay, difficulty, or feel are very welcome.

At long last, I can play Game Genie on my toploader. It’s been a long time since I was able to use a Game Genie for that reason.

Hot take: I am not a big fan of the original Legend of Zelda.

I don't like getting lost. Not without a map.

This is ironic coming from someone who enjoys most Zelda games, most Metroid games, most JRPGs, and most soulsborne titles.

Growing up on Mario and Sonic, I don't mind being pointed out where to go next. Getting lost has always been an issue with me in games and one that only got better as I got older and more skilled.

But going back to LoZ for the first time in 20 years reminds me exactly of why I don't think LoZ aged very well. Without a guide, you're stuck for 20 minutes looking for Level 2.

And that's just not appealing to me. I'll take getting beat in Contra, Ninja Gaiden, and Castlevania over this.

In search of Nightmare on Elm Street

Not particularly a rare title. I just cant find one that isn't all busted up. Why is it that some specific games always have the same raggedy wear on them? I'm not even "needing" that game its just become such a ridiculous search that its become personal lol

A few more to add to the collection

Six more yo add to the collection.

Gyruss, Air Fortress, Smash TV, Star Tropics, Wizardry, and Shadowgate.

I remember playing gyruss in the arcade as a kid and liked it. Air fortress I never played before. Smash tv is a classic, and Star Tropics is unique. Wizardry and Shadow Gate are og rpgs and new to me.

Any thoughts?

Just came in the mail

After hearing this game was a hidden gem and seeing the screenshots of how beautiful it is I couldn’t resist and had to pick it up.. I enjoyed Zelda, Crystalis , and similar games so it was a no brainer tbh . Also got willow on VHS recently so it seems even more justified lol

I Have Been Chosen!!!

I have been playing Zelda 1 on original hardware and a CRT at that. It has been such an incredible journey that I’m towards the end of the game and decided that I wanted to give Zelda 2 a try. So I naturally went on the hunt to find a copy! I looked on GameStop website and they actually had a copy an hour away and I coincidentally needed to drive that way for work the following week. I checked the website again a few days prior and apparently my local mall GameStop also received a copy in stock!

So a day later I went to go to the mall and purchase it and the guy tells me that someone had already called in and placed a hold on the game. I knew there was another retro game store in the mall so I said why not try there then. Luckily they had 2 gold cartridges in stock! I was thrilled and purchased a copy!

Well I get home right, and I say “just in case, let me pop in the game and see if it works.” I turn it on, and there’s a save file already on the game. ITS MY NAME ON THE SAVE FILE!!! THE FILE WAS NEVER EVEN STARTED!!! I have never felt a more paranormal feeling, and I now feel obligated to begin the Adventure of Link and save Hyrule. I don’t have any answers as to how or why theres a save file with my name on it, but damn it feels cool as hell.

My collection unearthed!

My collection was in a box across a continent for almost 20 years. So nice to see it again!! If you havent played MC Kids before, its one of the best platformers on the NES, despite the branded content! I just need to find a power supply and one more controller for my console.

Recent purchase. Debating partial re-label.

Trying to rebuild and addon to my childhood game collection - Love Metal Gear, and picked it up for a decent price, just a shame about the label. I was considering fully relabeling but it just feels wrong. My other idea was to carefully cut away the peeled excess to get clean(er) lines and then measure out and use a scribing tool on a reproduction label to cut and join the two. I know it would look goofy with the two separate levels of wear and fading, and you would definitely see the seam. It just seems good to try and do the little bit extra to keep the remnants of the og label.

Curious if anyone else has done something like this and maybe has some ideas that would help, words of encouragement, call me silly, etc. And I'll try to give an update if/when it gets done

Newest Addition to the collection

I recently re-acquired an NES (my last NES died about 13 years ago and I never really bothered to get another one until now) and I ended up falling down the rabbit hole of adding to my relatively small (about 12 games prior to getting the NES) collection of NES games. This game is the first of several NES games I've recently picked up (I got a pretty good deal on it) and I couldn’t be more excited as it’s also one of the 3 NES Mega Man games (the others being 4 & 5) that I’d never played before (mainly because I had moved onto the Sega Genesis by the time this game came out) so I’m really looking forward to finally playing this game.

P.S. any advice or recommendations on which robot master I should start with first?
