My Dearest,

When and if the world insists that my life must reach its end, then I accept the fate— so long as I remain sane to inhabit it fully until the very last shadow falls.

I find myself lingering in the "mays" of our existence. I want to look you in the eye and curve my smile just so, making even the silliest question feel like a matter of absolute urgency. I want to feel the ghost of a touch as my fingers graze yours on a park bench while we watch the sun’s final gold retreat from the sky.

In the quiet, lazy heat of an afternoon, I want to be the one who tugs a stray lock of hair behind your ear while the jukebox hums our soundtrack. I want to walk beside you toward an opera neither of us actually intends to see, or spend the morning painting that old bicycle in the backyard just so we can take one final, colorful ride together. I want to rest my head on your shoulder and simply... talk.

So, I am asking you: will you let me be the flâneuse of my own soul?

Will you let me wander through all these "wants” and “mays” without trying to guide my feet? I don’t need a map, and I certainly don't need a sermon on how to wander. I only need to know if you will let me be—exactly as I am—beside you.
