In 1961, Mongolia sent several horses to Vietnam as gifts/aid. Among them were two striking dark brown and brown horses that stood out—they were unfriendly to the other horses and handlers. Upon arrival in Vietnam, the pair escaped by jumping over a tall fence meant to contain them. Vietnamese soldiers recaptured the brown horse, but the dark brown one got away.

Two years later, in 1963, a nomad horseman in Mongolia spotted his dark brown horse back with the herd. The animal had traveled thousands of kilometers across countries and harsh terrain to return home. It was thin, covered in wounds and scratches, but alive. There are many similiar stories like this such as mongolian horses sent to soviet union during ww2 returning etc
