This experience has been humbling, I thought I knew about safety.

I have Descovy as PrEP on hand and thought you could do the “PrEP on demand” thing where you take 2 tablets prior
To sex, then 1 the next day and another 1 the following.

After many months inactive, I took 2 Descovy tablets on Monday, proceeded to have to have unprotected sex with someone. After the fact they told me they weren’t actually on PrEP and it just went downhill from there.

I got myself dressed and out of there, drove straight to an Urgent Care. They had no idea what PEP was, just PrEP. So was a lot of self advocacy here. Eventually got a prescription for Travada alone, so had to go to the ER and advocate again for myself to get the Tivicay prescription as well.

For good measure they gave me a shot to cure bacterial STIs and gave me DoxyPEP as well. I’m now on day 6 post exposure. The DoxyPEP was a little rough on my stomach, but knock on wood feeling ok so far.

I’m really disappointed in myself for being foolish, and getting wrapped up in the moment and losing my head. This has been a big lesson for me, and I just hope I don’t have to pay the consequences for a lifetime.

Retiring from the Military in 2 years: LatAm

So I’m 2 years out from my pension, and I’m looking to final out and dip to Latin America as soon as possible.

I don’t plan to work, I plan to go to either Mexico or Panama. Both are doable because despite being 39 I will have a monthly pension for life, and I’ve got TSP investments that show solvency. I know I can’t claim it, but I also have monthly cash flow from renting my house out in Florida.

I’m currently leaning Mexico, at least for a year to study Spanish via immersion. There’s a school I’m focused on in Guadalajara, but after a year I’m free to go wherever.

I am not into the party scene, I’m sober and live a chill lifestyle. I don’t need a lot to be happy, basically a clean and safe place to live and I’m good.

I think Panama is easier long term as I can get a permanent residency basically right away. Open to buying property if I find my home, but plan to rent initially.

Anyone else doing something similar?
