My boss is rinsing my workplace but after we caught him he’s gone real weird

Title: Am I wrong for wanting a fair share if valuable scrap is being handed out at work?

Easily 20+k in the past 3 months

I’m an electrician with 10 years in the trade and we’re currently dismantling a large machine at work.

There are some very large power cables and a lot of valuable scrap involved. Our manager has been acting very secretively about what’s happening to it all. Different people are getting different stories, and we’ve caught people coming in to strip cable without the rest of us being told what’s going on.

The thing that’s bothering me is that it seems pretty clear the scrap is being taken and sold off without proper transparency. Because my shift mate and I have caught them several times, we’ve now been offered a share ourselves, which makes the whole situation feel even more questionable.

What really concerns me is the amount of information we’ve been given that later turned out not to be true. For example, on one occasion we were told certain people hadn’t been on site or hadn’t been involved, but we have timestamped photographs showing otherwise. There have been multiple situations where what we’ve been told doesn’t line up with what we’ve personally witnessed.

To be clear, I’m not saying I’m automatically entitled to anything. If the company wants all the scrap, that’s fine. But if it is being distributed among employees, I feel it should be done openly and fairly, especially for the people doing the dismantling work.

I have photos showing large amounts of cable being removed, and based on my experience I know it’s not insignificant value.

Another concern is that this manager recently got someone dismissed from the company, and that person had been his friend for years. Seeing that happen has made me worry that if my shift mate and I keep asking questions or drawing attention to what’s going on, we could end up being targeted as well.

Would you raise concerns, or just keep quiet and accept that management can do what they want? Money doesn’t grow on trees anymore, and the money would certainly be useful, which is part of why the situation is bothering me.

Am I being unreasonable for wanting transparency and a fair share if others are receiving one? Also, as far as I’m aware, no management above the engineering management team knows what’s going on, and this has apparently been happening for years.
