Is 5 credits too much?

I'm in my first year, and my current registration plans are:

- Math 1200 (Multi)

- Span 1300

- Phys 2000

- Hums 0245 (Six Perspectives Seminar)

- Hums 0229 (Six Perspectives Lab)

Is this a doable schedule? I've heard that Span 1300 and Math 1200 can be particularly homework heavy, and I was wondering if I should delay my language to next semester.

Spanish L3 and L4 or L3-4 Intensive

As an incoming freshman, I was placed into Spanish L3, and now I'm debating whether to take the two semesters separately or one intensive class. I don't really enjoy Spanish and don't trust my abilities all that well, mainly in speaking. I like the idea of getting it all done at once so I can take classes I actually want to take, but the word "intensive" is pretty much scaring me away.

With scheduling right around the corner, I'd appreciate any testimonies and help you guys are willing to share!

PHYS 2000 v.s. PHYS 2600 and Labs?

As an incoming freshman interested in a physics or astrophysics major, I was wondering how truly different PHYS 2600 is from PHYS 2000 and which one I should schedule for myself. For context, I took AP Physics C Mechanics and got a 5, and I have limited self-lead experience with E&M. Also, it looks like STEM majors are recommended to declare their major at the beginning of sophomore year if possible, but I would need to take Math 1200, PHYS 2000/2600, and a set of lab courses this year, and that just seems like a lot. Any insight?

How bad is Spanish L3?

I just placed into Spanish L3 as an incoming freshman, and I was wondering if anyone could help give me some insight into how difficult it is. I've taken Spanish up to the level of a local dual enrollment course, but I still don't consider myself very good at it and am worried about an all-Spanish class. I am trying to decide if I should take L3 and L4 in Spanish or look at a different language and would love some class testimonials.

How tall are Bingham beds?

I'm a prefrosh in Bingham Hall on Old Campus and was thinking about getting some shelves or something to put under the bed for some extra storage. I know that the beds can't be truly lofted, but I also know that they can be raised somewhat with the pre-existing frame. I was just wondering roughly how tall they might be so that I could try and purchase things before move-in day.

Mac or Windows for incoming undergrad?

I'm interested in getting a new laptop for college (@ Yale) and was wondering if other physics students had any recommendations, particularly on whether i should get a Mac or Windows laptop, based on software needs, usability, etc. I'm thinking about taking handwritten notes on an Ipad or tablet of some sort, so connectivity would be somewhat nice.

Mac or Windows for incoming STEM student?

I am an incoming freshman at Yale intending to study physics/astrophysics, and I'm looking to buy a new laptop for the next four years. I can't find anything on the university/department website that gives any clear-cut recommendations, but I was wondering if current STEM Yalies see any difference or have any recommendations on whether I should get a Mac or a Windows laptop based on software compatibility, ease of lab use, durability, and ultimately what most people think would be best for the next four years.

I either plan on getting a 2in1 laptop or a laptop and a separate, but compatible, tablet to take notes on (I have the scholarship money, so cost shouldn't be that big of a factor). I'd like it to last me the four years I'm in college, and would like it to be friendly toward computing power as I'm going into a STEM field (Physics/astrophysics). I would also like thoughts on whether a separate combo or 2in1 is better for my particular situation. Thanks!!

Help me spend scholarship money!

As a Yalie '2030, I realize that Yale uses my outside scholarship money to "take away" my financial aid. I currently have around $20,000 in outside scholarships, and let's just say that my parents and I are slightly worried that it is all hurting me more than it is helping. From what I understand, I can use $3,700 of it for my "student contribution" part of the cost and $2,500 for a one-time tech purchase (new laptop, case, etc.) Is there anything else I can use this money for that actually helps me in addition to my financial aid, like books or anything like that, or are there any workarounds? Plz help!!

Hey, I'm an incoming freshman and am currently filling out some of the advising forms. I was wondering what exactly the college advisers do, and should I be opting to be assigned one? The form says they don't do academic advising or assistance, so I'm just confused what exactly they would help me with?
