Eli Whitney housing?

Hi! I'm hoping to get some specific info on housing/on-campus housing in relation to Eli Whitney students, specifically.
Yale mentions that there is potential "limited graduate housing" for Eli Whitney students. I wanted to ask if anyone knows which buildings/graduate housing options are available to Eli Whitney students & which one(s) they tend to live in? Or are EW students spread out across a couple different ones? & if so, which ones have you either personally lived in or heard about in terms of Eli Whitney students?
& if anyone knows: how far are these buildings from campus?/are they on-campus?/how far are they from classes or residential colleges?
Thank you!

Do I have a chance to get financial aid?

Hi guys! I'm an international student recently committed to Yale for my sport but I graduate in 2027 so I haven't applied or gotten a pre read yet. My family has a fairly unique financial situation and I can't really calculate whether we will be able to get any aid using the NPC.

My parents are unemployed by choice due to health issues but they used to have decent jobs so we have real estate worth between 2-3 million usd in equity consisting of our primary residence and a property abroad.

They also had some savings previously but the past few years they've used it to support me in pursuing my sport and studies so now our savings are pretty much drained. We generate a little bit of income from renting the house we own abroad but it's all used to pay property tax and morgage.

The housing markets in both countries that our properties are in are really bad right now so we likely will not be able to sell either of them before I start school. My parents are willing to support me going to Yale no matter what but without any aid it would take a really big financial toll on our family.

If anyone was or knows anyone else in a similar situation, I was wondering if you could give me some insight into how much aid we could expect, if any at all? Also, if anybody tried to appeal their financial aid and was successful, could you tell me a little about how that process goes?

Thank you so much for your help!

The future of Grade inflation/deflation (???) at Yale

Hi I’m an incoming first-year. I read a bit about the new report on trust in higher education. It seems that President McInnis was very receptive to it and was at the very least open to reducing grade inflation. I also saw a 3.0 GPA avg floated. Do any current students have any inside knowledge about efforts to curb grade inflation? Are there discussions being had? Is it likely? Have professors potentially given any indication? Idk I’m just particularly concerned as a law school hopeful.

Obstruction Permit for Pod

Hi all
We are moving out of state from our apartment and were wondering if anyone has obtained an obstruction permit for parking your pod in the street?

  1. Is there a way to guarantee you will get a spot on the street/block that you wish to park your pod?
  2. I got conflicting information about when it should be submitted - is it a week before the requested obstruction of parking?
  3. If the street has metered parking, do I need to fill out a form for a meter bag too?

Thank you!

My granddad's Yale pennant from his acceptance into undergrad, probably in mid-1940s. Can anyone tell what year it might be from?

It's about 9 inches long. It was in a picture frame in his office when I was a little kid. He didn't actually end up going lol. I don't know that much about his childhood and don't have anyone to ask. Thanks

pre-med courses question

hey everyone! i'll be attending yale as a chem major on the premed track next year, and i'm super excited! i have a few questions about the courses i'm taking and my 4-year premed plan.

my goal is to take the MCAT in september of junior year, which would enable me to have one more shot at it in the spring. (i realize this is quite an ambitious goal haha, but i find setting an earlier goal will allow me to be more flexible in case something throws a wrench in my plans). i plan on taking freshman orgo, and since im a chem major, i'll take inorganic chem later down the line (so i don't need to worry about the gen chem requirements).

my current plan is to take freshman orgo 1 and 2 in my 1st and 2nd semester, and get some other premed prereqs out of the way 1st year (english, biostats, and maybe calc or psych). however, i didn't want to take gen bio during first semester since i feel like i may get burnt out due to the difficulty of keeping up with 2 heavy science based classes.

i was wondering if i could start the gen bio track in spring, when i'm more acclimated to yale. this would allow me to finish the gen bio track in fall of my sophomore year and take biochem in spring of my sophomore year (i also wonder: is biochem offered during spring?). i also plan on taking physics 1/2 during my sophomore year, which i've heard is better to do with gen bio as its not as intensive as orgo (please correct me if im wrong). i'm also curious about the professors; will i be able to get good profs for all these classes based on the semesters i'm thinking?

idk if this helps, but i've had prior experience in all these classes except orgo and physics 2 in high school.

let me know what y'all think of this plan. again, i do realize that my MCAT goal may be on the ambitious side, but if i can start general bio in the spring i think i'll be okay. or, let me know if i'll be okay taking the MCAT in january instead (and retake in april-ish, if needed). the goal is not to take a gap year haha. i'd love any yale-specific premed advice, esp from those who took freshman orgo, since i'm a little overwhelmed with the prereqs. thanks again!

best major/concentration for law school - pls help

i’ve recently committed to yale (go bulldogs!) and i’m beyond excited

i don’t know what i want to major in but i know i need to keep a high gpa (for law school) and im a bit nervous. i definitely feel like i was more of a personality hire so i don’t want to pick a super difficult major

i like polisci, pupol, gov, philosophy/ethics, econ (micro>), art history

but i’m definitely not in love with anything

are there “easier” majors?? this might be a dumb question but i don’t know anyone @ yale or at a t20 school so any advice helps! thank you guys

Please ask Yale University to STOP May landscaping services to allow baby birds a chance to fledge!

For those of you that don't know, many local bird species begin laying their eggs at the middle of April. The eggs hatch around the beginning of May and then by mid May the birds enter the fledging stage.

This stage is when the babies are mostly flightless and living on the ground and in underbrush. (Incidentally this is why you should not pick up or attempt to "help" a baby bird on the ground!)

One of the biggest risks to baby birds at this stage is landscaping operations and lawn mowing. The birds are small and in unexpected places and mowing grass etc can cause significant mortality. There is a growing movement for NO MOW MAY which pushes for organizations to delay landscaping operations until June, when fledglings are able to fly.

I had just watched some beautiful baby birds hatch and fledge from my door two days ago. Now, with all the pre commencement landscaping, there is a high chance they are all dead.

If you are an undergrad, please contact your head of house to support this policy of No Mow May at Yale!

You can also (do both!) contact the Sustainability Office here: sustainability@yale.edu

Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that will only go through if we can get A LOT of support!

Thank you for your attention.

Any thoughts on our new mission statement?

The mission statement changed from
"Yale is committed to improving the world today and for future generations through outstanding research and scholarship, education, preservation, and practice. Yale educates aspiring leaders worldwide who serve all sectors of society. We carry out this mission through the free exchange of ideas in an ethical, interdependent, and diverse community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni."
to "Yale’s core mission is to create, disseminate, and preserve knowledge through research and teaching." around two weeks ago.

Any thoughts on that?

rescinded?

hi i know everyone says don’t worry but just wanted to ask.

incoming first year. i’ve gotten all As in all my highschool classes, and expect to receive As in my current classes. my dual enrollment classes are my concern, which are Linear Algebra and Calc 3 currently. I have a B in Calc 3 and a C+ in Linear Algebra. I’ve been studying as hard as I can but due to so many other responsibilities I’ve had to miss a lot of lectures and am very behind.

i just took exams for both classes and expect my grade to drop lower. Given the advanced nature of these classes and my high school grades, do I have to worry about potentially receiving Ds in those classes? I’m also math/cs major so I’d want to retake this classes at Yale anyways and not accelerate any coursework even if I did excel in said classes.

Current Student Help? Yale Tour on Saturday?

I know there are no official tours on Sat but are there any political science majors still on campus willing to give one? I know campus is closed off to the public so I assume this is the only way to see it.
Son just came off the waitlist and has to decide by next week. Sat is the only day that we can visit due to AP tests, work, graduation, etc. Will be flying in early Sat and flying out early Sun.

Already committed to Harvard but Yale…

Getting groceries without a car

Hi! I’m an incoming grad student, and I don’t think I’ll have a car with me. How reliable are the Yale shuttles? Specifically for the grocery store runs, how often do they come? Would I be better off using something like Instacart or Walmart+? Or the public CT buses?

Thanks for your help!!

Hello everyone!

I am not an incoming student at yale , more like a prospective student. I will be beginning my psych undergrad degree in India (4 yr degree) however I have a slightly different plan. I will do 2 yrs here and strengthen my portfolio and work for my future plans and then transfer to yale. AND I KNOW that it is not really probable but I am willing to work for it, I know that yale has a very competitive system of accepting transfer students (I googled and it said that yale only takes 1.4% students as transfer students) and I am gonna give my all for it to be in that percentage. I wanted to ask if some of you could help me in any way, maybe like what things are sm I should be looking into in order to be considered and hopefully accepted. ( And once again I know it is almost impossible but I still wanna do it)

Thank you!

Sailing in NH

Hi! I’ll be moving to Yale for Masters. I spent a year in Chicago where I truly enjoyed sailing. I was wondering what sailing clubs can I join? Where do you join groups to sail? Thanks!
