CONFUSION on Instructor Permission and Credit Limits

So I’m getting contradictory information on what I can and can’t do with instructor permission classes in relation to the course limit.

My FROCO told me that instructors cannot approve you for a permission course if you already have a full schedule (ie: you registered for a schedule as if you didn’t get the course). They said since you would be at the credit limit, they can’t approve you since you can’t drop a course before the add drop period formally begins.

However I’ve seen some people say that you are able to drop another course if an instructor approved you for a course. Registration is in like two days so which one is accurate?

The instructor permission I’m interested in is a first year seminar so I was gonna try to sign up for everything and a back up seminar. Now, if I can’t do my full schedule I would still sign up for the back-up seminar but not register for one of the larger lecture courses I’m interested in, and hope I can get it in a good last class if I don’t get into the instructor permission one.

Pokemon Binder Art— supplies, steps, and tips

Hey guys I recently decided after a convo with my sibling to make them a cute pokemon binder for Christmas! I would commission somebody, but as a college student, frankly, it’s not quite within my budget! But with some good reference photos and some patience I think I can make them something special!

I am new to binder art so I had some questions about the best steps, supplies and materials:

  1. what binder / binder brand should I use
  2. will acrylic paint work (with details done by acrylic markers)
  3. how should I “seal” it so that it doesn’t get destroyed and how can I do this safely?

My current plan is to sketch a design on my iPad, print it, do a pencil transfer onto the binder. Then I want to do a white base in the things I’m painting, go in with layers of acrylic, and finally do details with some acrylic markers. Since it will have to travel I want to make sure I can find some sort of sealant or protective thing for the binder.

If anyone has any links to supplies, or names of supplies that are helpful I will truly appreciate it! Additionally if you have experience do the steps I have seem reasonable, or am I missing something important?

Thank you all so much! I do have an art studio at my college so I will be taking advantage of that space in my free time and will probably order supplies (I want to use decent supplies but also am on a bit of a budget).

How realistic is having 15 mins between classes?

I’m going to email my language department but I placed into the L1 level of a language I’ve studied for 5+ years and have gotten 4s on AP exams correlated to that language. My options are currently to take L1 or an intensive L1/L2 class but that would leave me 15mins to get from my first class at HQ to my second class near science hill. I’m going to try to email the language head and see if I can get put into a L2 level, but if not am leaning towards taking the intensive. Is this realistic though? I want to study abroad the summer after my freshmen year and I’ve heard you often have to take a L3 course to do that— is that accurate as well? I took the placement test sleep deprived and procrastinated too much on it and am regretting it.

Edit for clarity: 15mins between the classes total. I’m short so I’m worried about the 13min walk part lol plus exiting the fifth floor if HQ plus getting into the science building and in class on time

New Student- what should I know about New Haven?

Hey guys, I’m an incoming freshmen at Yale this year and am not from Connecticut so I would love to learn a little bit about New Haven from locals. I’m also from a rural/small-town so not very used to city life.

What places would you recommend visiting around Yale in New Haven? What places should I avoid? I know there’s the Broadway shops in the Yale area but are the areas past the New Haven Green alright as well (I walked through the green after I toured and it was not the best choice I made)?

I also feel like New Haven has a very strong reputation of crime, but would like to actually hear from people who live there, their opinions (because sometimes places just get a worse rap then they really are). I would love any input whether it’s nice restaurants that don’t get as much recognition that I could visit with friends, or nice stores / places to visit and sight-see during my time at Yale! Already planning to join some Dwight Hall service groups to help and connect with the surrounding community but would appreciate learning a little bit more about the New Haven community before these next couple of weeks. Thanks!

Healthiest Dining Halls

What are the best dining halls at Yale for those who want to eat as healthy as possible (like good, low-cal options)? Throughout the summer I’ve been trying real hard to have better eating habits and overall improve my health and would hate to kind of lose that. What dining halls have “better” options like salad bars or other things? I also heard that some dining halls will make grilled chicken for people when the main meal has a less healthy meat option— are there specific dining halls where they already have some made up? Though I’m trying to take my health seriously, I also would hate to inconvenience someone by asking for grilled chicken or anything that would have them go out of their way.

Any input would be super appreciated!

YA chronic illness book w tragic ending and bright pink cover

Ok so the book had like three main characters. I think one girl was emo and was also plus size. One was popular girl-ish and the other character was a boy. One of the girls had either cancer or a chronic illness and she died at the end of the book after waking up during a sleepover and experiencing some health issues. The cover of the inside hardcover was hot pink and had the three upper busts of the characters with their backs to us so we saw their hair and shoulders. I think the title was like 1-3 words long. It was young adult and I recently remembered reading it though I don’t remember much about it. Any help is welcome!

Lawrance Hall- Space, set up questions

Rescos came out today and I’m in Branford which is staying in Lawrance Hall! It looks like I’m in a double so I was wondering if…

  1. will I be in a bunk bed (pls dear god no)
  2. are the rooms themselves pretty spacious?
  3. how many showers / toilets are there in each suite? I know we have private bathrooms but honestly nobody in the Branford discord has been able to find a good video or photos of Lawrance hall.

I’ve really held off on getting dorm stuff until now so I would appreciate and love any insights yall have! Thanks!

Muir’s foreshadowing [discussion](soup)

Rereading all books in the locked tomb series to pick up on all of Muir’s foreshadowing. Idk if this was intentional but I had a good laugh at the beginning of Gideon when Harrow threatened to put ground up bones in her breakfast and punch through her stomach. Any other funny details or connections yall appreciate in the series?

What is this thing I found on the beach?

Was collecting seashells at St Augustine when I came across this unique piece. It’s softer in texture and relatively smooth. The textures and internal structure are unlike anything I’ve seen before in a typical shell.

DS Waitlist- do I need a LOCI?

So I was waitlisted from DS today, and I’m very disappointed about it as the program really appealed to me and I thought my DS essays were pretty solid. I know lots of students get waitlisted, I saw last year’s Yale daily news article— are we supposed to write a letter of continued interest?

They said you’re on the list unless you email to be removed from it, but won’t tell you your position so like would that really change anything? Also quite frustrated as they recommended doing the summer readings and all the virtual events but what if I do all those things and still don’t get off of it? I heard most students drop it like the first two weeks of classes but as an organized person having no idea how my first weeks will work out class wise is quite frustrating.

Any advice? I heard other students from DS say they were waitlisted and if you want it you’ll be in the program eventually, however, if the list is truly ranked like is that even a possibility to think about?

Pls help me with tampons

Im an older teenager, Im supposed to get my period today and my family and I are driving to the beach tonight and we’re going to spend the week there. Problem is I’ve never had tampons before. I’ve tried putting one in today looked at the charts and the videos and I don’t know if it’s my angle or my size but like I just can’t get it in. Like it feels like the applicators too big and I’m too clumsy bc obviously you can’t really see down there. Like smaller girls what methods have you found that helped you out? I legit just can’t get it in for the life of me but I want to enjoy the beach! I have period underwear and period swim trunks from a previous vacation where I was at the end of my cycle at the beach so it was like super light, but those items are not equipped for heavy duty stuff.
