Realistically, how would Adrian Shephard Be Brought Back Into The Fray?

As the title states I have been wondering this after seeing some "We need Shephard back" Comments on YouTube. What are your ideas? Mine is this hypothetical situation, I cannot remember where I saw this but there was an idea where Shephard is a backup to Gordon. I Think if they decide to bring him back from stasis in a future sequel Gordon dies somehow so The G-Man does the whole "Rise and shine Corporal Shephard" Spiel, tossing him into the chaos.
