Feeling frustrated . . . could use some advice

Our ADT system was installed in 2022 and has worked pretty well during all of that time.

Until last year. We had to replace our CO2 alarms because they were beeping and the tech said that the units usually need to be replaced every two years. At that point we had the batteries in the fire/smoke alarms replaced just to be safe. We also had a day where the fire/smoke alarm in the laundry room went off. No fire, but a very hot day.

A few weeks ago, we had our gate repainted and had an ADT tech help us fix the sensors so they would work again. He only worked on the outdoor sensor and added some silicone to the garage side door sensors.

The very next day, all of the door and window sensors in the house, plus the alarms, were not working. The wall unit gave errors for all of them except the two that were worked on the day before. (I suppose it could be a coincidence because the tech didn’t even come into the house?)

A virtual tech walked us through different processes to see what was wrong. They said they’d never seen that error before and couldn’t connect. The next appointment for a live person was two weeks later, so we booked it.

That person showed up last Wednesday and diagnosed it as a battery issue. We paid $350 to update ALL of the batteries just to ensure everything would be OK (the batteries in the fire/smoke alarm showed that they were OK but we updated those anyway just to be safe.) The batteries he used expire in 2028 and I tested one and it had full power bars.

The next day, a loud fire/smoke alarm went off while we were home. It was in our home office. I ran into the office and there was no fire. I spoke to an ADT lady on the phone and they canceled the alarm. She had me remove the batteries from the unit and set up a call with a tech.

I had that call yesterday. He said he felt that the office fire alarm was the culprit for everything, so he removed that from the system and said he’d be mailing a new alarm and that he’d call me next Saturday to help install it. He put the alarms in test mode in the meantime.

Last night at 2:45 a.m., two other alarms (the one in my room and in the hallway by the office) started beeping every 20-30 secs extremely loudly. I had to remove the batteries in those to turn them off.

I called ADT and the lady said the batteries were showing that they were OK. She suggested I ask the tech about it next Saturday during our call.

Although she said she understood that I was frustrated, and she was very nice, there seemed to be no urgency. We have 3 fire alarms that are out of service and we’re afraid to leave the house for fear that an alarm will go off and we won’t know for sure if it’s a real fire or not. My dad just had a small surgery and is recovering and my parents are stressed that they’ll get woken up by an alarm every night.

She said a tech could come to the house but that she couldn’t schedule me, and someone would have to call me this week to do so. Every time, we have to wait two weeks for someone to come and it definitely feels like these fire/smoke alarms are defective.

Any advice would be appreciated because it feels like the issue isn’t ever truly resolved.

Everyone we’ve dealt with has been very nice but my parents are on the verge of wanting to just cancel ADT altogether.

Thank you!

Fake posters on eBay?

I went on eBay to see if anyone was selling the numbered posters from the Greek and a ton of people are offering the posters at all kinds of different sizes, so it looks like they scanned them and are just printing them themselves. Is that a thing now?
