ADT finally embraces DIY home security with new Blu system

ADT finally realized younger homeowners don’t want installers drilling holes in their walls or long term contracts. The new ADT Blu system is fully DIY, app controlled, expandable over time, and optionally backed by professional monitoring. It feels like ADT finally admitting the Ring and SimpliSafe era changed the home security business forever.

ADT Increases

Just a heads up for someone like me with ADHD and miserable executive dysfunction who hates making phone calls and has been procrastinating calling ADT to get a price decrease - use this post as your sign and DO IT.

Yes, it took me 25 minutes on the phone but most of that was because I called billing dept instead of account management and I was put on hold for a while. But it was an easy process for me once I got to acct management. I told them I would like to cancel if they couldn't get my monthly payment down to about half the price I was paying (I was paying ~$70/month and they were going to raise it again to $75 for June) and just by telling them I could switch to Simplisafe for ~$30/month, they immediately lowered my price to $32/month.

Yes, ADT is annoying overall but I will continue with it to not have to switch out my whole system. I'm taking the small wins for now.

Held Hostage

DO NOT BUY!!! This has been a nightmare. The equipment is faulty, there's hidden fees, they will not honor their contract and will weaponize the system against you.

Both cameras stopped working and I've been through 11 smoke detectors. The smoke detectors would malfunction in the middle of the night and I'd have to climb a ladder and get them down, remove the batteries, and call in the morning to get a tech out to replace them. 11 TIMES! They eventually said they changed equipment providers and wanted to charge me over $100 for a service call to replace their faulty equipment that was supposed to be replaced for free under the lifetime warranty. Since it was a breach of contract I terminated it. The rep was belligerent and yelling, and repeatedly told me he'd brick my system. A system I already paid for and was told that I now owned the equipment and could take with me should I move.

This morning when my husband tried to leave for work he couldn't disarm the panel, it was functional but it wouldn't allow him to disarm, holding us hostage in our own house. He had to leave for work which set the alarm off. I ended up taking the panel off the wall and putting it in a closet because ADT made sure there was no way to turn it off and no way to log into the system.

I got this system because I had a stalker, but ADT has been far worse. I was told I "qualified" for some of the equipment to be free and was then charged anyway. Then even after completely paying for the equipment and being told I owned it and it belonged to me, ADT bricked it by making it impossible to turn off the alarm because I didn't wish to continue the monitoring service, since they were in breach of contract.

This has been a huge waste of time, money, and my sanity. All this in just a little over two years. After posting this review I'll be looking for any class action lawsuits I can join against ADT.

How to fix door + shock tamper?

I have a door tamper and a shock tamper that goes off randomly.

I bypass the sensors but every day around the same time they trip the alarm again and un-bypass themselves.

How can I fix this DIY? Bypass them and change the batteries? Does anyone have tips on how to change the batteries or fix these faulty tampers?

Base loses WiFi and starts chirping all day with no notification

Periodically, my base unit seems to lose WiFi connection. When it does, it starts chirping, like a smoke detector, and will do this for hours. There's no notification on the app so when I'm out, I have no idea this is going on. I have cats and they hate this noise. When I get back, there's nothing I can do to stop it myself, it reports good signal, and doing the communication test doesn't fix it. So I call support, give them the technician code and they fiddle with it and shut the noise off. This happens about once a month now. Finally they sent a tech out and all he did was tell me that I had to have an ADT-only 2.4GHz WiFi network. My current WiFi setup has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz with the same SSID. The tech was saying that I should change the 2.4GHz SSID and attach the base to that one. That doesn't seem right. Has anyone else had to do something like this?

Tamper going off

Just changed the battery, it reads tamper on the screen no matter how many times I reboot or put in the code. I did try taking the battery out a minute, still says tamper. Anything I can do?

ADT Technical support job

Is the customer technical support remote job as bad as everyone is claiming? I am on the fence about applying if i get accepted into it and was wondering about anyones experiences on it. I am mostly looking into it as a way to gain experience so that I could apply to other jobs down the road for help desk or other technical support jobs.

Any advice would be appreciated!

ADT Reduce Monthly Bill

If you call to cancel your service at ADT, even if you are in a contract, they will call you and offer a much lower monthly bill.

these guys are fucking scammers

had to fight these fuckers to replace my battery, which is barely a year old. sensors only worked for half the year. they wanted 160 for the battery and 59 for the servicer charge. mind you this equipment is 1 year old. when I asked the service rep how long the batteries should last, they said 2 years. then why is mine dead 50% of its supposed life?

got them to credit me 160 and replace my sensors that weren't working.

to cancel id have to pay 800!!! this shit should be illegal! I dont mind the contract, IF THEY ARE PROVIDING THE CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY PROMISE. they use 3rd party installers so they need to ignore as many customers as possible.

The Google AI Pro / ADT "Subscription Collision" is real—Here is how I’m fighting their $750 exit fee.

I’m a Pixel 10 Pro user with Google AI Pro. I’ve discovered a permanent subscription Collision' where ADT’s legacy software is architecturally incompatible with flagship Google Home Premium accounts.

My experience:

  1. Safety Breach: Smart locks didn't work for 7 days post-install, leaving my home unsecured.
  2. Admitted Negligence: My ADT rep officially documented that the install was 'professionally deficient.'
  3. The Trap: ADT is demanding $750 to cancel a non-functional system.

I just sent a formal Notice of Intent to Arbitrate citing the April 2026 DOJ Settlement ($1.26M). If you're a high-end Google user stuck in this same 'collision' loop, let's connect for a mass arbitration effort!!!

The new ADT plus base sound is so low even all the way. How can I add my old Lifeshield keypad and Lifeshield base to my ADT plus set up? Maybe as a z wave?
