My scooter renter came back from Cambugahay Falls saying “never again” 😭

Umulan lang madaling araw, then tumigil agad pag first light.

Yung scooter renter ko pinuntahan pa rin Cambugahay Falls… pagbalik niya sabi:

>

Hahaha akala namin okay na since huminto na ulan.

Pero:

🌧️ kahit isang malakas na ulan lang
🌿 runoff galing bundok ilog
💦 naging brown/muddy yung tubig
⚠️ not ideal for swimming that day + ⚠️ off-limits for tourists that day (safety reasons)

Didn’t expect a one-time rain could change it that much 😅🌴
Same place. Different experience depending on the weather. 🌿

Same experience ba sa ibang waterfalls?

Made a DIY Siquijor Travel Guide After One of My Renters Got Completely Lost on the Island 😅

Made a DIY Siquijor Travel Guide After One of My Renters Got Completely Lost on the Island 😅

One of my scooter renters got lost while exploring Siquijor and somehow turned a simple island loop into a whole-day adventure. 😂

Thankfully, they had fun—but it made me realize how many travelers want to explore Siquijor on their own and end up piecing together information from random blogs, old Facebook posts and YouTube videos.

After answering the same questions over and over, I started putting together a DIY guide based on places I've personally visited and recommendations from locals and travelers.

A few local tips:

🏍️ Rent a scooter if you're comfortable riding. It's the easiest way to explore the island at your own pace.

🌊 Visit Cambugahay Falls early (before 8 AM if possible). You'll avoid most of the crowds.

🏖️ Popular spots like Salagdoong are much better on weekdays.

🌴 Don't try to see everything in one day. Siquijor is best enjoyed slowly.

🧙 Be respectful of the island's healing traditions and folklore. It's an important part of the local culture.

The guide eventually grew into a collection of routes, attractions, cafés, waterfalls, hidden beaches and practical travel tips for DIY travelers.

Happy to answer any questions about Siquijor in the comments. 🤙

PSA for Siquijor Travelers: ATMs Can Go Offline, Cash Is Still King in Remote Areas 😭💳

Just got back from Siquijor 🌴 and I wanted to share a quick heads-up for future travelers.

If you’re planning a trip, make sure you’re prepared here 👉

For those who’ve been there or planning to go — paano niyo hinarap yung payments situation sa Siquijor specially when ATMs are OFFLINE? SiquiRide Travel Guide

DIY Travel or Tour Package — which one would you choose?

My partner and I were planning our next island trip while talking in the kitchen and we ended up debating:

🛵 DIY Travel

  • Flexible schedule
  • Cheaper if planned well
  • More adventure and local experience

🧳 Tour Package

  • Less stress
  • Everything organized
  • Better for short vacations and first-timers

Honestly, both have pros and cons depending on budget, travel style and destination.

If you had to choose for your next vacation — are you going full DIY or booking a tour package? Why? 👀

Not sure if napapansin ng iba, but big airline news doesn’t automatically mean babagsak ang tourism—especially for islands.

Kapag may low-cost carrier na nawawala, hindi naman tumitigil ang travel… nag-aadjust lang.

Usually ganito nangyayari:

  • Flights get more expensive or limited
  • Mas pinipili ng travelers mag-stay longer
  • Sinusulit bawat destination
  • Less hopping around, more experience-focused trips

For places like Siquijor, bagay na bagay ‘to sa slow travel. Hindi lang destination yung habol—pati yung pag-explore mismo.

Mas ramdam mo yung lugar kapag hawak mo oras mo, hindi naka-depend sa tours or fixed schedules.

Kayo ba—mas prefer niyo ba yung ganitong style of travel, or okay pa rin yung mabilisang trips?

Saw a report that Spirit Aviation Holdings Inc. (a US budget airline group) is winding down operations after rising fuel costs and a failed bailout attempt.

It made me think…

Budget travel by air isn’t as “cheap” and stable as it used to be.

And I’ve noticed something interesting in places like Siquijor:

Instead of fast, expensive trips packed into flights and hotels… more travelers are choosing slower, local experiences.

Scooters over taxis.
Road trips over tight itineraries.
Freedom over schedules.

As a local here, I’ve seen tourists enjoy the island more when they’re not rushing from airport → hotel → tour bus.

Mas relaxing jud siya.

Curious lang:
Do you think travel is shifting more toward “slow travel” now?

Or still flights + packed itineraries?
