Let's Keep the Only the Three Founders of the nWo, and Add Four More Members. Who You Got?

It's the 30th Anniversary of the nWo's formation so it's got me thinking back on some What If's. Let's suppose the other future nWo guys never join. It's Hollywood Hogan, The Outsiders, and a blank slate. You only get four draft picks to complete the group, making it a gang of seven (and Bischoff makes eight but we are focusing on active wrestlers here). You can draw from any promotion of the day that isn't someone who was under WWE contract at the time.

You can keep someone who eventually did join the nWo if you want (as I do here), but creativity is encouraged.

My draft picks, joining Hogan, Hall and Nash:

Rob Van Dam

The Gangstas

Masahiro Chono

...and go! 🤘🏼

FULL MATCH: Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Psicosis: WCW Bash at the Beach 1996

We focus so much on Hogan breaking bad, the rest of the card gets overlooked. Fun match right here. Rey and Psicosis never ceased to have great chemistry in the ring.

Bob Backlund vs. Alex Shelley (FULL MATCH) | TNA Slammiversary 2007

Bob in TNA. I sometimes forget this ever happened but yup, here we are. Bob Backlund getting PPV matches in the era of Paper Planes. Then WWE brought Bob right back yet again, for the Raw Anniversary battle royal.

I hear Bob still stays in great physical shape to this day, even as he is battling early dementia. Makes me kinda wanna see Bob pop up in AEW for the fuck of it. (Who gets the chicken wing?)

The Real Origin of the Hulk Hogan name: a 1961 issue of Marvel Gunsmoke Westerns

True story, it was not in fact Vince McMahon Sr. who first came up with the name Hulk Hogan. Believe it or not, the name actually predates the Incredible Hulk character by one year!

Marvel Gunsmoke Westerns #63 from 1961 contained a Two Gun Kid story titled "The Hands of the Hulk." The story depicts the Kid being challenged to a brawl by a big ol' hombre who goes by the name...Hulk Hogan. Yup, seriously.

I don't know if this is was the IP Marvel was trying to protect all this time, but it definitely sheds new light on how this name came to be. I don't buy this being coincidence.

A Look Back on the "All American Boy" Bob Backlund, circa 1983 (first episode of WWE All American Wrestling)

Yup, WWE dedicated the entire first episode of All American Wrestling with a review of Bob Backlund's soon-to-end reign as Champion. Some great footage of Bob in his prime as one of the greatest technicians ever to hit the ring (including his 1978 title win) and a fun look at Vince hosting what was his first time ever presenting WWE on the USA Network (watch him nearly break in the first segment when his teleprompter appears to screw up). And this baby is complete with original commercials!

This is a fun look at Bob Backlund before his more well known years in the bow tie. Alongside Bruno Sammartino and Hulk Hogan, imo one of the top three greatest WWE Champions of all time. Give it a look and see what the All American Boy was all about. Happy 250th.
