I have a very similar set up inside my house, and they work fine. But I built this habitat for my sniffers, and the allays just stay in the corners. The structure is three fences high, with mud as a ceiling.

I tried making a chain of hoppers from my iron farm to my storage room, but the iron wouldn’t travel horizontally. I had 4 hoppers come down, and then about 30 hoppers horizontally.
All the iron got stuck in that fourth vertical hopper.
I have settled with a tunnel from my storage room to a chest.
Is there a trick to have hoppers continue horizontally? I’m not doing anything differently (crouching)
I also tried building the hopper chain from my storage room chest to the farm chest, and then tried the opposite direction, the same thing happened.
Does my question even make sense? 🥹😅
I tried AFKing my iron farm for the first time, and I simply stood there just watching the Golems.
When I came back from the grocery store, it said “you’ve been away for quite some time” and all my villagers had despawned :(
How do I AFK properly?
