How is Galaxy Defenders (Core box only) mainly for solo?

As the title says, I have a chance to get the core box and, since I'm not in the US, that's all I could get.

I've watched gameplays and I really liked it.

It would be mainly to play solo since my group usually meets like 2-3 times a year.

My main concern is regarding replayability and setup/teardown time vs actual playing time. I don't have a dedicated table and I have cats so leaving the game to play another day is not an option.

Also, are there fan-made scenarios or something similar?

I'm under the understanding that sword & sorcery is similar and have more content available but I'm tired of medieval fantasy and scifi is a theme that calls me more.

Bonus: if you happen to know about a game that feels tactical, with good character progression, easily available and is not crowdfunding, I would really appreciate the recommendation.

Thank you for reading

Tips on teaching the game with only Base and JE?

As the title says, I'm going to teach 3-4 (total players 5-6) people how to play Spirit Island and need tips.
I read the awesome post on BGG about storytelling the setup, but I think this wouldn't work for them.

Since I'm not able to get Horizons, I'm limited to Base game and JE. I'm planning on playing Rampant Green and let them choose but I will obviously limit the spirit pool for them.

Personally, I don't like Thunder Chicken as a beginner spirit since it make harder to explain how to play slow powers. On the other side, I think Moderate complexity spirits like Lure or maybe Trickster, might be viable options. I could also play another spirit and let someone else play Rampant green since supporting others is a great way to learn the game IMO.

For background, the group usually play complex games like Terraforming Mars and others around weights 3-3.5 so not too far from spirit island complexity, I guess.

So, any tips?

Edit: Would adding "token" rules from JE without the events increased complexity too much?
