My boyfriend found, painted, and sent me Gloomhaven Buttons and Bugs and I just have to show off his work. These are SO tiny I'm over the moon and super impressed!

I do not know where to ask my questions, so I hope the clickbait works! I am a pretty experienced player, but Ker Nethalas Quickstart is my first try at a solo TTRPG / dungeon crawler, and it is definitely a different type of beast.
I was playing as Lucarl Hews, and he was pretty unlucky. He got 3 poison stacks from trap #4 in the trap table. He needs to pass an Athletics +10 check, but his Athletics skill is 0. This character has Medicine 20. Does this mean that trying to cure the poison is a waste of bandages, since he is unlikely to pass the Medicine check on the first try?
When his Toughness drops from 1 to 0 while taking 3 poison damage, does he take 2 damage to his Health?
The quickstart has no camping rules. Does this mean we just spend 1 Ration to recover D12 Toughness and D2 Health (and Aether, etc)?
Why does he have thieves' tools if his Thievery is only 10?
Both of his Masteries have abilities with Sustain that require a Standard Action to activate. I thought a Standard Action is a combat term. Do I need to activate and sustain his Aether for Infuse Weapon in every combat? What about Darksight?
Thanks in advance!
Hello everyone!
I wanted to share a personal project I’ve been working on: The Crypt, minimalist co-op dungeon crawler Print & Play game.
In The Crypt, players explore procedural tile-based rooms, manage Energy, fight monsters, and defeat bosses while trying to survive the depths. My goal was to create a hard baseline difficulty game, yet featuring adjustable rules to suit each group's experience level, which I called "Merciful Crypt Variants" and "Merciless Crypt Variants" variants. They do not alter the core rules, but can make the game easier or even harder. Do you think players will welcome this?
The concept is to master the game over time while ensuring replayability remains consistently high.
Also, feel free to give me your thoughts about the minimalist concept. Is it the right approach for a dungeon, being it PnP?
P.S. Photos show the Spanish version, but all the components (including the rulebook) were translated into English as well!!
You can find a 9-second sweep with display and components here: https://imgur.com/a/7V5Xdp7
Thanks for your insights!
I'm searching for some challenging solo dungeon crawl PnP games that play in under an hour without requiring too much crafting effort(cutting few cards is fine). What are the best ones you've played?
I’m not sure if it’s my increased job workload or a thinning attention span, but I’m dealing with some exhaustion lately when sitting down to play a game. My brain isn’t amazing, so any hiatus of significant length has me starting from scratch in the rule books. Odd sensation to have memories of a self that was flying unassisted around a system that now feels like it’s in a different language. Who was that guy.
p.p.s. please if you get a chanse put some flowrs on Algernons grave in thebak yard.
This evening, I pulled out Bag of Dungeon and had a perfectly decent time of it. There’s not a ton going on there, but it got me chucking dice and exploring tiles again. Escape the Dark Castle I’ll play, too, and I’ve got some of the D&D games, (too big of a footprint right now), but I’m looking for something else in the fantasy neighborhood that won’t require any major rule deciphering. I bounced off the iconography of Tiny Epic Dungeons and One Deck I just wasn’t a fan of at all, so those are out. Gloomhaven: JOTL I’ve got, too, but I’ve never been super satisfied with it. Still can’t put a finger on what my problem is with that one. Massive Darkness I sold.
Thoughts on this? Help a dumb brother out.
Got a session of TED in tonight with my first four painted stock miniatures, which really elevates the experience, I gotta be honest. Much more immersive than everyone being in gray! I tried to emulate the card art as much as I could, while still being dynamic enough to see well on the board.
I got slaughtered by the hydra boss in the end (due in part to a series of unwise decisions earlier in the game), but nevertheless: this is not only one of my favorite TE games, it's one of my favorite dungeon crawlers, period!
Looking forward to getting the rest of the minis painted soon...
This was made with the help of walkie26. The format is the same from the game, poker format.
Originated from my previous post.
I downloaded 2d6 Dungeon. I play 4AD but I run that completely digitally. I wanted to try this one mostly analog, aside from some tables I’ll use on a tablet. I was not prepared for all the crafting involved! Lots of cards and charts. I made a functional rulebook but I can’t help but wonder if there’s an easy way to add a more durable cover to it without needing to purchase any additional equipment? Anyone have any suggestions?
Grabbed this at Target for 25$. Anything I should keep in mind before jumping into this solo?
Hi all,
In your opinion... well, to put it bluntly, what the bloody hell happened?
One decade, the only thing people and kids wanted to play were dungeon crawlers, dungeon divers, adventure games, and RPG-adventure board games. Heck, it dominated for 30 years! You know the ones I'm talking about! DragonLance, HeroQuest, Space Crusade, Descent: Journeys in the Dark, and...! Then...! Uh.... oh....
What the bloody hell happened?
Even the videogame side of things couldn't get enough of dungeon runs. Daggerfall, Diablo, Diablo 2, Titanquest, Arx Fatalis, Nox, Dungeon Siege, Dungeon Siege 2, I'll even count World of Warcraft for bloody sake!
And now... well, it seems a shadow of its former self. Where did we go wrong? Why have we been shunned from the light, and why is the only certifiably GREAT dungeon game actually a euro game... Gloomhaven! Even that was nearly 10 years ago now!
So i ask you... what caused this once dominant and glorious genre to lose its shimmer? What made it so dull and redundant like it often is today, full of tropes and hackneyed, tired concepts. Where is the innovation? The sense of mystery? The roguelike levels of replayability we were promised, only to... blow away in the wind like bone dust in an ancient tomb once unearthed to the sunlight...
How did we go wrong? What can we do to restore it? What would make Dungeon Crawling fresh again?
Has anyone tried to solo Castle Ravenloft or Legend of Drizzt? I haven't tried DnD (apart from playing Baldur's Gate 3) but the theme of Castle Ravenloft seems quite Appealing. Is the series worth picking up ?
Greetings,
I wanted to share my first time in a tabletop solo Jaws of the Lion. After days of 3d printing and speedpainting, I had a bit of expectations. And it did deliver!. Those rats didnt stood a chance.
As you can appreciate in the photo, my cat is not too happy about this...
I'm already printing for scenario 2. Feel free to share your creations in whatever game. How much do you print or paint in games like these?
Should I just play the OG or return and get the updated version? In a funny turn of fate, I actually prefer the cover for the original. Obviously veryyyy similar artwork, but I think the composition is better. Anyway, does anyone know if Gravebound will be getting a deluxe version? If so, I may just learn the game as it was originally published and buy that when it’s announced. Thanks for reading.
I picked up a copy of One Deck Dungeon over the weekend and really excited to get it on the table! Any tips I should know before diving in?
So far having an absolute nirvana playing first UnderQuest session. I just finished level 3 and working on my fifth quest. Playing the Kurmori Herbalist with One-eyed Toad (random pick). Just experienced one highlight:
I was about to die in combat with Cursed Wolf having last health, when rolled two subsequent misses (3s and then snake eyes) so the Wolf instantly died. Having nothing to raise my health I fearfully picked next dungeon card, awaiting my doom. I was blinded by the Archangel’s flash of light and with my morality up at 4 I was healed for the same amount. Blissfull moment.
EDIT: I won! I won my first game. I was insanely lucky. I got Sacred Armour thanks to my morality 5, and I got into ice-magic just to reach fire based Ash Wyrm and learned with Ice Wall that prevented him to harm me via fire. Also I was close to death but he missed his last attack and I had just one last grit to cast Ice Arrows to deal exactly 8 damage to his 8 health left. What a ride! :)
I've had my eyes on HeroQuest for a while, but I'm having trouble finding something similar that is solo friendly. Does anyone have any recommendations similar to it?
- High fantasy
- Campaign driven (but just dungeon delving is fine too)
Edit: Thank you, everyone, for the great recommendations. I'm glad I stumbled across this sub, lol.
Hi everyone, I’m new here and would love some help. I’ve always played video games, and RPGs are my favorite genre. I’ve achieved 100% completion in *BG3*, *Divinity 2*, *Rogue Trader*, and other CRPGs. Lately, though, I haven't felt the same urge to play other games as I used to. A friend recently reached out to play *Star Wars: Imperial Assault*, and it really made me want to get a game I could play mostly solo. Do you think any of these games would be a good choice to get started in the hobby?
- *Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion*
- *The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth*
- The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship
I’m looking for something with a campaign/dungeon crawler focus
Feel free to suggest other
D100 dungeon has been my first step into Solo Play. I had done a bit of Pathfinder and D&D before and missed the story making that comes with DMing for other players, so I've been sort of improvising little stories for myself in dungeons and during World Builder activities. The Quests in the base game give some theme, and I've been supplementing using the Quest Builder, some other books like the Table Fables ones, and a bunch of online tables to give a bit more of a story and character journey.
Overall I've liked my time with the game; I think the structure it provides is really good for someone first getting into solo play, my only problem now is its starting to feel a bit too structured when I want to do something for the sake of a story thread or character goal. I've tried bending the rules a bit, pre-making a map for a world that I've built and theming quests with the quest builder based on that. I've made a new encounter list for all the different biomes too, I'll link it below if anyone wants it.
Wondered if anyone had any other ideas for D100 Dungeon specifically, or more general experience with breaking a games rules to fit your purpose?
Obviously I could always just play another game, I just get fun out of adapting and tweaking existing systems for some reason.
Looking at the sub rules I think I'm allowed to post this, this is intended as a tool being shared and a request for advice rather than a sellable set of rules or anything like that.
This wasn't really made with the intention of anybody but myself using it, but I thought I might as well share it anyway. Even if the balance and presentation are a mess someone can probably get some use out of it. While the stats are specifically for D100 Dungeon the general creature names and vibes could be used for any game with similar generic locations like Desert, Forest, Swamp etc.
Such a fun solitaire card game. I recently posted a full playthrough on my channel. I really enjoy it. Any other Scoundrel fans out there?
Hello guys! We've made a post about this a whole year ago, but since then we've completely remade the crowdfunding page for Fungeon Crawl.
In short, it's a chaotic card game where you play as eccentric characters in a wacky dungeon. You'll fight monsters, find treasures and visit a myriad of fantastical locations. Each adventurer is looking to end the game as the richest one, and to achieve this you'll do pretty much anything. You'll set up traps and you'll rob the other players for all they've got.
It's a light-hearted game at its core with a cartoony art style at so we wanted the page to reflect that.
Does it look charming to you and does it work well?
