Should I prepare for GATE!?
For context I am a 1st year(almost completed) CS student from tier 2 college. In my first year, I explored a lot about what I really want to do, explored a wide range of career opportunities including competitive exams like UPSC, SSC followed by regulatory body exam followed by various higher studies options.
I am already wired or say manipulated that when in comes to Computer Science, skills over degree. Now as my first year is about to end I roughly know what I want to do(stay in computer science domain). I preferably don't want to go full on preparation mode for any exam because that is clearly a matrix attack for me 😅
If I have to give an exam, it should have high overlap with what I am currently doing(Coding in my case) and maybe say some extra efforts here and there. GATE is the only exam that I feel can upgrade me but at the same time I feel like I will miss out on things I plan to do like freelancing in automation (currently learning backend and n8n), creating projects and socialize with wonderful people I have met in college.
I feel like 2 years of actual work experience at a company can beat 2 years of MTech when it comes to learning and knowing real shit. My end goal is to have a comfortable WLB job (preferably government IT related roles like IT officer at government organisation)that pays well so that I can do whatever the f*ck I want in my free time(travelling, side hustles like freelancing, jerking off.....)
I still have lot more to say but the post is already too long, can you guys give your opinion on this!?
