Seborrheic dermatitis is running my life
l
My hair used to be so thick and gorgeous—everyone who saw it would talk about it. Unfortunately, a year ago, I started experiencing itching, yellow flakes, abnormal oiliness, and severe hair loss. My hair became so thin; even my braid has gotten ridiculously small.
I decided to go to the doctor, only to discover I have something called seborrheic dermatitis. It’s a chronic condition, meaning it never truly goes away—you can only manage it. The moment I found out, I broke down.
To make matters worse, people close to me at home suddenly started making comments. Out of nowhere, they would look at me and say, '[Name], your sister and your other sister have the exact same thick hair, May God protect them.' It felt like they were implicitly pointing out that my hair is no longer thick. Mind you, they know I have seborrheic dermatitis, and it hurts so much coming from people who are so close to you and know what you're going through.
Every single day, I search for research and solutions—anything to get rid of it—but I just can't.
The doctor prescribed me shampoos. I used them all until they ran out—literally draining my money on them. When I went back and told her it hadn't cleared up, she said, 'That's impossible. Everyone who comes to me gets better except you! I'm sorry, I can't treat you.' I left her clinic completely devastated.
May God forgive me, but sometimes I have very dark thoughts because of this affliction. I know that God tests those He loves, and Alhamdulillah (praise be to God) for everything, but as a girl, my hair was my primary source of beauty and confidence.
