This sub is full of sad posts. I’m proud GenX. We’re the hopeful, but don’t give a fuck people. I worry for my generation. What’s happening? Is the specter of death just a generational inevitability?
Film director David Cronenberg said after his heart attack, he didn’t think of art as he was lying on the ground. He thought of family. And his comforting thought was “Oblivion is Freedom.”
After I’m gone, I look forward to that freedom. But saddened by my peers who may not ever see that light.
Now I return to my exceptional scotch and leave you with words of wisdom from a great philosopher:
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Cell coverage?
I have AT&T, and I’m now eligible to upgrade to a new phone. And years past, I’ve had Verizon and the old US cellular. I found in the Madison area all three have dead spots of some sort. But I think the AT&T ones seem to be the worst. I know there’s not one that will be 100%, but what are people experiencing these days about Verizon?
Lunar eclipse at totality in Wisconsin USA
Gone.
Didn’t realize these old ads were getting painted over when I took this last Saturday. Glad I did.
“Jaws” Friday night at Bartell Theatre
Anyone going? I’ve never seen this in the theater and it would be fun to experience it with an audience.
Tarzan and his Mate (1934)
I watched the restored version of this last night. My dad was a huge Tarzan fan given that he grew up in the great depression era. He would make me watch these movies as a kid, and I always found them to be really cheesy.
However, now looking back at it and understanding the pre-code era of filmmaking, I found the movie to be an incredible historical capsule.
And oh my God was there a lot of nudity in this movie! Like a lot. I know the whole underwater nude swimming sequence was something that was lost and recently restored, but I was expecting something with maybe a brief flash. Nope. Full frontal of Jane. That was mostly from the swimming body double but when she came out of the water, you definitely saw Maureen O’Hara‘s breasts.
Plus the level of violence, especially graphic violence, was really something to see. If this movie were to come out today, it would definitely have an R rating just from the violence. I can see now why this was one of the significant movies of the era that triggered the 1935 Hays code to go into effect.
The film was still pretty cheesy, but it was almost all nonstop, action, and a lot of it was actually quite thrilling. And I have to admit I never really notice as a kid that Johnny Weissmuller, while having the most incredible chest a human has ever had (he had been an Olympic swimmer before this), absolutely cannot act. lol. So I guess it was kind of fun to go back and revisit my childhood.
Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury
Right now (10:22pm) floating in the NW sky. Looked so creepy driving home with all the humidity in the air.
